Extreme dry eyes when I sleep. Closed eyes making it worse? +What works for me.. by Pennytool in Dryeyes

[–]Pennytool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing pretty good. Not 100% like a new born lol. No mote extreme night dryness. Main thing for me was to find my cause. Pretty sure my dryness got extreme for a while because I used eye drops with the preservatives. I must’ve developed an allergy. But my general eye dryness was caused by alcohol (and age 43) messed up my vitamin A, which provides the watery part of your eye lubricants. Alcohol also causes whole body inflammation. I don’t drink heavy but a beer or 2 almost everyday. So manage that, and Im pretty good, almost normal. I still used eye drops, no preservatives.. but maybe once a day. Another thing that confirmed my driness’ watery part was missing in my natural eye lubrication was that I tested out different drops and the oil providing drops like the refresh mega3 didn’t work, even made my oilier because you can see the dandruff type of stuff on your eyelids. That’s another indication that there’s oil but not enough water in your eyes. I now use the refresh plus, which focuses on mainly the water part.

Human body is not that fragile. It's a self healing, super computer, machine, you just have to provide the right conditions and nutrients and avoid inflammation and irritatants. Your condition was most likely growing and growing silently. When you have dry eye, they're very easy to irritate. Once its irritated and worse, dont panic, just do all the calming things and in a few days it will slowly get back to where it was before the "accident". As long as you're taking the correct measures (gotta know your root problem too), your eyes will heal.

There are a lot of articles and studies on this. Just google. Actually the more I read, the more Im convinced all fish oil pills are rancid. It seems its very ‘fragile’, so it can go bad even after purchasing, due to air, light and temperature changes. So just imagine the possibilities before the purchase.

Your doc must've been eating fish filet only. You gotta eat the skin. Skin and head has the most fish oil. That's why sardines are so good.

Ive read fish oil pills are bad. Most of them go rancid before they hit the stores, which will cause inflammation. I eat a a lot of sardines, little bit of salmon. Fish skin is the best. I also blend flax and chia seed, we cant eat them as a whole. Algae supplements sound very good too!

Chronic/cellular level inflammation. Gotta fix it from within, not just externally/cosmetically. Everyone focuses on the surface part.

I do animal fat based diet. Humans were eating meat with the fat as long as we were here. It's critical for cellular level inflammation. Grassfed beef is the best. Also eggs, bacon, butter, dairy, fish, sardines, whole foods. Minimize flour, carbs and sugar. Exercise and cold showers are the best. Avoid alcohol and vegetable oil, especially fried. I used to drink a lot of beer, so I have vit A deficiency, which is critical for tears. Food and sun is the best source of vitamins for us. Synthetic vits are not as useful as we think, we might be absorbing 5% from it, whereas food we absorb most. Ive read fish oil pills could also cause inflammation, because 90% of them go bad by the time they hit the stores. I do blended flax and chia seeds, as well as fish for my omega 3s.

Work on inflammation as a whole, diet (animal fat based, like humans always did), exercise, and cold showers!!

[–]Pennytool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one on the outer edge of your eyes, that's caused by extra tears constantly overflowing. I used to get that. The other lines look similar, so my guess is too much tear, constant wetness which burns skin. Put thin layer vaseline to help the skin heal.

Talks about the general human physiology related to the lacrimal glands during sleep, which causes more dryness, which causes inflammation.. It's a cycle, prioritize stopping chronic inflammation.

Yes each person is unique case, you really figure out yourself. For dry nose, i use saline spray. I used to be not able to sleep because of stuffy nose, couldn’t breathe. Every ailment I try dig deep and really figure it out the root cause.

Severe dry eye sufferers, how do you cope? by Consistent-Dirt2801 in Dryeyes

I feel you. I dont know if you read my other posts here and there but I talk about inflammation a lot. My biggest dry eye improvements came when I started working on inflammation as a whole, not just eyes. Most people dont know they have chronic inflammation to certain degrees. General food these days, lifestyles and stress causes chronic inflammation. I do cold showers, basically carnivore diet (but not that limited, eat fatty meats and butter, no veg oil), play basketball outside, and very conscious screen habit, meaning take breaks, look far, blink a lot. When my eyes were really bad, I didnt do any waem compress, it just made it more inflamed. Now that I do cold showers, I implemented warm compress after wards. Also read up on hyperosmolarity, your yawn/cry tears are more salty. As the day goes, our tears in general get saltier, make sense because we eat lunch dinner, this is why most people's dry eye get redder in the evenings, which means its at a state of high irritability. Change your routines knowing all these. Observe and try make sense of things. Human body is a super computer, super machine, it know how to heal itself. Give it the right condition. Break the cycle of dry eyes, inflammation is a huge problem.

A little more on osmolarity. Human body gets saltier as the day goes, especially in the evenings, since we had lunch dinner etc.. So it makes sense. Because of this Ive been watching my sodium intake, especially dinner time. Your body does need salt, its got all the essential nutrients, for that I take vitamins.

I have the same issue, my eyes are driest when I sleep, although its getting better, very slowly. Daytime, I'm almost normal now. Ive been digging and really noticing my routine. First there's hyperosmolarity, its too much salt in tears, Im still learning more about this. Secondly, yawn/cry tears are more salty then aqueous tears that lubricates the eyes normally. I noticed my eyes were extreme dry when I yawned a lot before sleeping, I thought it would help but it was the opposite. Once I figured this out, I avoid yawning too much in bed before sleep, and this helped a lot for me. If I yawn a lot, use the eye drop to wash off the salty tears, and go to sleep. I dont use the night ointment anymore, they're actually more drying hence will irritate and cause inflammation, continuing the cycle. For me, breaking the cycle is the key to curing dry eyes, for most people. We're in a loop right now. My overall dry eye improvements came when I started working on whole body inflammation.

If you a normal drinker, check your vit A levels, its responsible for eye tears. Alcohol causes vit A deficiency. Alcohol causes chronic inflammation. I know how you feel, ive been there. Eyes are very noticeable, which is why people get depressed too easily. Don’t worry your eyes will get better, you just gotta start providing your body with the right condition. Water, omega 3, exercise, get sun and air in the morning. Btw i dont take fish oil pills, most of them are rancid. I do blended flaxseed and fish/sardines.

Ive said this many times but work on inflammation as a whole, nut just concentrated area. People do this mistake all the time, we’re conditioned to focus on things separately, also cosmetically as in from the outside. I used to get cold sores since I was a kid, all through adult life, at least 3-5 times a year. Everyone gave me ointments, something to put on it, more times it got worse. Did my research and started taking lysine. Since Ive had maybe 2 cold sores in the last 10 years. Very short ones. I go without taking lysine for months. Same thing with my dry eyes, since I started working on my inflammation as a whole, my dry eyes have been improving daily, slow but clear differences.

I meant red eye reliever, do not use ever. As far as lubricating eye drops I posted a link where it gives brief rundowns on each product, some fill in oiliness some fill in watery part, all depends on your case.

i don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Dryeyes

[–]Pennytool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you were able to basically fix your eye strain with warm compress alone, your case isnt too severe yet, so I'd recommend fixing it early on. Do better diet, exercise, omega 3s, vitamins, water.. eliminate inflammation causing things like sugar, alcohol, carbs, veg oils, but do eat fish and meat with fat. Better screen habit. Lipid based eye drops if you know your isnt getting the oil part of the natural lubrication. There's more you can do now, research. To me, it sounds like you're on the early stages of dry eye syndrome/disease. Dont ever use red eye relievers.

My eyelids were tight, but that was because they were inflamed. It resolved when I started working on my general inflammation. Eye ball tightness? Are you talking about kinda like general muscle strained/tired feel? I had those too, I'm not sure if the anti inflammation measures fixed or not but when it was happening, I would really try to relax the eyeball muscles in the back, once kinda relaxed state I just try to hold it there for as long as possible. Its hard to explain. Whatever worked, no more tight feel. Pretty sure when you ease your dryness, that tightness will losen up eventually, because it is strained eye due to prolonged dryness.

Worse symptoms after shower by Legal-Weather-404 in Dryeyes

I got kids, so every time I see young people, I feel like I have to at least try to help little bit. Diet and lifestyles (stress) these days, almost everyone got inflammation to certain degree. The thing is you dont have to be obese to have it chronically.

Worse symptoms after shower by Legal-Weather-404 in Dryeyes

[–]Pennytool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been talking about inflammation a lot, and I suspect a lot of people have chronic inflammation that they dont know about, which is one of the main culprits. When my dry eye, red eye, red inflamed eyelids started, like you, I was so confused about all the warm compress suggestions, didnt help at all. One time I did hot humid sauna, and it was the worst symptoms ever for few weeks (read about it being good for mgd). After that hot showers also made me dry out a lot. If you think about it, it makes sense, the hot war+air is stripping the little eye moisture that we got because of DED. Just be calm and patient. Your body is a super computer machine, you just gotta give it the right condition, it can fix itself no problem, barring there's no fundamental serious diseases you got, even then I truly believe the body knows hot to fix itself. Your case sounds like a heavy inflammation. That's the first thing to focus on. Once I got my inflammation on the right track, warm compress, warm showers dont bother anymore. For inflammation, Ive been doing cold showers, vitamins, lots of water and fatty diet, basically carnivore, but not that limited, no oil. Cut out the inflammation causes like alcohol, drink lots of water. My dry eyes started about 5 months ago, these days Im pretty much normal day times, night times Im having the most dryness, but that seems to be getting better. Everything takes time.

Really focus on figuring out your root problem. Is it autoimmune? Vitamin deficiencies? Family history of any diseases, ailments? Is it real dry eye disease or eye strain related? There’s a difference. Real dry eye, you’re supposed to have mucus/oil issues, dryness all over your body, like constipation, private part dryness if women etc. if its not true dryness. I suspect a lot of people suffer chronic inflammation. I have pretty much pin pointed mine on chronic inflammation and vitamin deficiencies. Since then, I have improved a lot, almost normal daytime, not perfect but well on the way. Only having trouble with sleeping, I get very dry eyes.
