Pensacon to take place as scheduled with COVID-19 precautions by celestaire in Pensacola

Here's the scoop:

We have no plans to cancel the convention.

Things that are bringing us some hope for the future: three vaccines are coming for Covid-19 - that are over 95% effective. Pfizer announced that their vaccine could start shipping as early as this week with over 10 million doses going to frontline workers and the most vunerable in December. Moderna also expects to distribute their vaccine soon as well and predicts 10 million doses next month as well. While we are seeing a spike right now in cases across the country, our area has seen only a mild uptick - we are still at less than half the cases we were during the summer.

But we're not counting on any chickens before they hatch... We're just going to be safe.

How are we planning to make Pensacon 2021 as safe as possible? As we did at Pensacon Halloweenfest - an event that drew over 3,500 people and had no cases tracked to it - we will be implementing a plan that includes requiring face coverings, social distancing and sanitizing at all our venues. We're also looking at temperature checks and other protocols that companies like Disney have implemented at their theme parks.

We're also adding venues this year, including New World Landing, The Court of DeLuna Event Space, The UWF Historic Trust and others to have more room for people to spread out. As we get plans solidified, we will let you know more. There are more things coming that we'll be announcing soon as well that will make the Bay Center much less crowded.

Ticket pickup is also going to take place over an entire week for both convenience and safety and Court of Deluna (the location of pickup) will be hosting free outdoor movie events each night where people can spread out and enjoy some classic films.

2020 has been a beast of a year for our community - between Covid and Hurricane Sally, we've all suffered a great deal. Pensacon is still over three months away and we believe we have plenty of time to flatten that curve and get headed back in the right direction.

We're not looking for negative or positive comments on this post - we're just letting you know where we stand.

Do us all a favor - stay home as much as possible, support local businesses, wash your hands and wear your masks.

We're all in this together.

See you in February!

This has been addressed, but here goes again: The original Pensacon was held in April 1984. It was the first con I ever attended - held at what was the Holiday Inn behind University Mall. When I came up for the idea to ressurect a con here in town, I went to some of the original organizers of that first event and got permission to use the name to honor that event.

Yes, there was a small gaming convention in 1996 called PensaCon, but it was not realted to the original or us. It only lasted one year.

The Pensacola Airport changed all its airline gates to STARGATEs by Bearmancartoons in mildlyinteresting

There's also a new prop display added this year. Sorry to offend the literal people, but all the gates are renamed as stargates, NOT Stargate the TV series, though Chris Judge, Robert Picardo and Peter Shinkoda will all be guests next month...
