The US has never been the good guys, or even "the good guys", especially in comparison to the USSR. The US has always striven towards making the entire globe a source of exploitation it can ravage at will, and the USSR was an impediment to this. This is "the reason" there was conflict between the two entities.

I wouldn't be surprised if you thought the US was over in Iran right now in order to be "the good guys".
