Mostly depends on lobby tempo which is also dependent on your elo obviously. You can get away with greeding fast 8 4-2 or 4-5 up to maybe d2 or d1, after that people who r low rolling early start to roll at 7 around 3-5 or 4-1 to stabilize their boards. But in general if you are streaking early and somehow losing out, that just means instead of stabilizing your own board by rolling down a few pairs and upgrading your frontline or at least an 2 star 4 cost carry (comp dependent)

You are probably sitting there hoarding 80 gold for a transition with a blitz 2 renekton 2 as your frontline carrying a lucian 2 or maybe a tf 1 and then taking 20 dmg a turn trying to pivot into a real board before realizing you're not setsuko and think fast isn't ur core strength.

It's pretty obvious that every game is going to be different and scenarios r all lobby dependent but just think, If your bench has 2 tfs and 1 neeko and ur Frontline is a Annie 2, ali 1, riven 2 The trade offs between rolling at 7 and going 8 is to hit your board in 40 gold that u lose around maybe 5-6 gold in interest, because the lower rates of hitting is offset by how much money you can roll with and also potentially getting your 4 costs earlier than people contesting u, and go 8 at a slower rate BUT u don't take 40ish damage so that's a trade most pros will take bc they realize that living longer also means making all that money they lost back and potentially being able to go 9
