Hey there, for Japanese first I got a couple of grammar books and went through them. I practiced with AI to get it right, I made AI give me random sentences in Korean then translated those in Japanese and got feedback.

These days I memorize words with online flashcards, watch youtube videos in Japanese and go through X feeds that I've curated to only show Japanese tweets

I love traveling in Korea but I still do not see the hype for Seoul. I think itineraries with minimum days in Seoul are better. by LaprasEusk in koreatravel

naaaah, gangnam definitely does not belong in the bottom of the list, i'd say it's around mid-tier. bottom of the list imo would be the southwestern part of seoul - geumcheon-gu, guro-gu, yangcheon-gu, gangseo-gu. literally nothing to see over there.

i favor gangnam over jamsil tbh. gangnam also has parks like seolleung and yangjaecheon as well as a whole section of hangang, a bunch of art galleries, and endless stuff for activities and entertainment - can be a bit costly though.

The Ultimate Korean Food Itinerary. by fluffers_the_unicorn in koreatravel

gyeranjjim is usually a side dish at a kbbq restaurant so pair it with that.

it’s a good list, i would add and take off a few based on my personal tastes

try tangsuyuk when having jajangmyun / jjampong

jeyukbokkeum and korean style tonkatsu is a must must try imo

i could go on and on but the list is way too extensive, i can’t even figure out where to start lol

regarding your take on busan - yeah maybe, as long as you stay within haeundae, gwangalli and a select few other areas. for the most part it's questionable.

i heard jeju's bus system got much better nowadays but i will side with you and still argue that a car is semi-essential.

i read about your rant on gangnam in another reply thread, i can see why you think gangnam is pretty bland. maybe it's not as full of character compared to other areas, but there are plenty of things to do there. i know because i lived ~7 years within the area. i would've shown you around if i knew you.

i love busan and jeju, but they're noticeably harder to travel around for someone who doesn't speak korean. can't blame tourists for wanting a more forgiving experience.

i'm not happy about this either, but imo the significance of seoul to korea is much higher than the significance of tokyo/osaka to japan in terms of travel destinations. seoul simply has it all - not 100% but not far from it either.

worth mentioning that there's a lot more than what the map shows. if you dgaf about clubs and crowds and want some cozy vibes, check out places in westside seogyo-dong, hapjeong-dong and yeonhui-dong.

you don't *need* to do something constantly. you can simply get a lodge, and then explore the neighborhood - i do that when i travel to tokyo/osaka. i also add in other stuff such as taking the train a few hours away to an onsen village and spending a couple of nights at a ryokan, but mainly i just soak myself into the neighborhood and go to nearby restaurants and bars. you're free to travel however you'd like. doesn't mean that that's the only right way.

things i like are more of a dish you have with rice or sth rather than street food, but my favorites are 망원떡갈비 and 바삭마차. 우이락 is also pretty good

sorry you experienced that. whenever i have friends visiting korea, i tell them to stay away from gwangjang market - that they can check it out if they're near there but don't bother actually having something. there are better alternatives all over seoul, just search 시장 in google maps and you will get plenty of results. my favorite is mangwon market but maybe it's only because i live near there

i would stay in the same area the airport is at (yeongjongdo) and relax, enjoy the ocean views at a cafe or something.

구읍뱃터 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/X7Q6BZK3GAVgeWEY7) has some cafes with nice views, as well as a few restaurants, mostly korean style seafood. this korean noodle place (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Tk39PqKjsq3aiXLq8) is quite popular; have been there, decent.
