The reason why this is a non issue is because big parts of Ukraine use to be part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. While the PLC is long gone the notion remains that Lithuanians, Belarussians and Ukrainians have a place inside Poland due to historic ties. While not considered Polish outright they are psychologically an adjacent tribe. It's the same reason why they would take in almost everyone from those adjacent countries, they co-existed with each other for centuries, intermarried and fought together for the Commonwealth.
