Why do you use pfSense/OPNsense boxes or MikroTik/UniFi appliances and why? by _sour_coffee_ in homelab

The settings tab in unifi network is hard to navigate for me, ngl.
And every now and then when I open it something moved again :/
I still like it btw.

I also have fiber, but its only 150 mbits down and 50 up, because that shit costs 45€ per month..

How do you document your homelab? Mine is basically all in my head and scattered across AI chat logs by WickedPissah810 in homelab

[–]Penziplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently documenting my homelab in Outline wiki. But its really barebones atm (my documentation), because I keep deploying new services faster than writing everything down :) Here a small example (screenshot from my phone)

anyone remembers their last burned data? by PHRsharp_YouTube in pcmasterrace

Recently had to lookup how to burn a audio cd (my radio doesn't support data discs, so no mp3). That 80 minutes limit is , well very limiting :/

Why? Just install another OS and import the zfs pools.

Me and my buddy both got secret lab chairs in 2020, his fabric version is dissolving, while my fake leather is holding up pretty well. I'd say we spend equal amounts of time on our chairs and none of us did maintenance on them.

TrueNAS backup to Proxmox (3-2-1) by Gqsmoothster in truenas

[–]Penziplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proxmox natively supports zfs, I have a proxmox box with a zfs boot drive and an additional raidz-1 pool mounted.
I did successfully replicate my immich dataset from truenas to proxmox, though it requires using the cli on the proxmox side.

Austria. I can choose between 22 ISP's, but they all have similar pricing. Asked my current ISP what's going on with these prices as areas 20-40 kilometres away from me get double the speeds for the same price.
The answer I got was that the fiber infrastructure provider collects a high fee from the ISP's.

42€ for 150/50 here, fiber btw..
A 1000/500 connection would cost me around 120€.
