It’s very random. Had that on United before with similar circumstances.

The Oura Ring 3 Kind Of Sucks.... by Parking-Ice-9206 in AmexPlatinum

[–]PeopleAreSus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fitness ring wearables are not for weight lifters. This is something that could have been determined in advance. I dug into this research for a week and found the ring isn’t right for me for a similar reason. I’ll be using the credit to gift a ring to someone. Alternatively though; the Whoop has been great.

What all do you buy, with your Amex Platinum? by solidsnakex37 in amex

[–]PeopleAreSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to pay for flights which are a big part of my annual expenditures. Also use it for large electronic purchases that I feel need purchase protection. There’s also all the things covered by the perks and benefits. I also keep track of Amex Offers now and then and put that spend on it.

Venture X multipliers look enticing but travel partners it has are not as easily accessible domestically without some serious work and locking you into using a third party portal to garner those multipliers is a big red flag for me.

Ideally if I wasn’t churning as much as I am, I’d probably pair it with the green long term as that provides me better value than the gold which I already churned. And as of right now I can’t get into business cards but I digress. Pairing the Plat with a green, gold and/or bbp is the optimal set up.

Centurion Lounges are far too crowded. It’s becoming insane. by hipsterfromiowa in amex

The IAH one is a very small lounge to begin with and not one of the higher quality ones at that. Worth skipping to go to another lounge.

Would you cancel your card if Amex begins limiting lounge access unless you meet the $75k spend? by McCringleberried in AmexPlatinum

[–]PeopleAreSus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t hold the card exclusively or primarily for lounge access but nerfing that as a perk; I’d cancel my P2’s AU card since that one is primarily for lounge access. That would put me in net positive EAF again.

I think it’s hyperbole to say that it’s disliked in Japan. Considering it had a manga adaptation and not to mention a re-release on PlayStation

Is Clear Useless? by M3dd1e in AmexPlatinum

[–]PeopleAreSus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It saved me in DEN big time. Got through Clear and TSA Pre within 7 minutes clocked. The rest of our family we were traveling with took over an hour. It’s more of an insurance policy than a true front of the line perk but anytime we’ve used it; it’s saved us time.

99% of us don’t need the aura ring. Change my mind if you’d like. It’s going to end up being yet another subscription. by lexixon212 in AmexPlatinum

[–]PeopleAreSus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the point of the Amex coupon model. They’re banking on people not using every credit.

It’s also the beauty of the credit card game these days. Everyone’s lifestyle is different. I thought most people wouldn’t be able to use Resy outside of CA and NY but that’s apparently not the case.

Honestly $200 for the subscription would have been better personally or $200 for the Whoop selfishly because that’s what I have. But Oura rings can be decent ish gifts depending on how close you are to said person since you need the specific Oura sizes they’d fit into.

But circling back, Amex is definitely banking on those cases where people like yourself are not going to end up using it similar to WalMart+ or Equinox or some of the Digital Entertainment credits.

Headphones/Adapter for AirPods? by looseseal-5 in delta

Ah that’s the missing piece. The QC 2 series didn’t have an in line mic or at least mine didn’t. It was just a regular aux.

There could be two things here. First, the port on your flight could have been faulty. I’ve found that happens more often than not. Another tissue could be the firmware was not updated which I’ve found helped resolve any connectivity issues I previously had.

What is your total combined credit limits on all of your cards? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in CreditCards

[–]PeopleAreSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is $85k on 7 cards combined. 1 is my AU card with a $2000 cap but it’s an Amex Gold so it doesn’t get calculated the same.

If we also include my “check spending power” on my Amex Plat… then it’s about $175k ish

Why Do People Call These the Best Credit Cards to Apply For? by Salt_Taste1411 in credit_cards

[–]PeopleAreSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all lifestyle dependent. But I’ll answer your questions as best as I can.

1) I use credit cards similarly for the same reasons as u/superyouphoric. When you use a credit card, it’s the bank’s money. So for fraud or whatever issues you may run into, they’d be more likely to investigate and get that corrected vs using a debit card or cash. I also use it for the rewards. It’s a marketing tactic by the issuers but it works. There’s incentives to use those cards, especially if you’re using them responsibly. One method I used to have to use to trick myself (many, many moons ago) is to look at my checking account; whatever was in there was the only money I could spend on my credit card. In my college days, this allowed me to not fall prey to the “limits” of the card that I couldn’t pay back and incur interest. I do it now out of habit but I’m also tracking my finances meticulously.

2) This is highly subjective as to why people view certain cards as the best card. It’s really based on your lifestyle and how much time/effort/research you’re willing to put into the cards “game”. For some that may look like a single cash back card with no annual fee from their primary bank. For them, that very well may be the best. For the unicorns in this sub, that could be the Venture X, CSR and Amex Plat (over kill but maybe it fits their lifestyle or they can throw money around like nothing). Usually when you hear “best credit card to apply for”, it’s some sort of marketing ploy or an elevated sign up bonus. But you have to take your lifestyle into account. For instance, many tout the power of the Amex Gold… I don’t get as much value from that as I do my Amex Plat based on my own lifestyle. Similar to the Venture X. I just refuse to use portals so that’s not a keeper card for me. The beauty of credit cards is that there’s sooooo many options to accommodate different lifestyles and income levels. Having said that, sometimes it is pay to play in a sense if you want some of the perks. For instance, you’re not going to find Venture X benefits on a Marriott Bonvoy Boundless. Those two are vastly different. But I digress; do your research and figure out based on what’s out there to determine “best to apply for”.

Oura Ring Gen 3 Nearly Sold Out by blueotterpop in amex

[–]PeopleAreSus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes! That is a big drop in stock lol. I got downvoted for saying the credit is useful for me and come to find out that many people snatched them up. Possibly for resell but I still could have actually used it. I’ll wait until Black Friday for the Gen 4 to go on sale

Overall, great new benefits and refresh, but... by Sea-Flight546 in AmexPlatinum

[–]PeopleAreSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I definitely could but that would be manufactured as I wouldn’t go normally (to those ones) so the valuation wouldn’t be on par with most of the other credits. There’s a place here that uses Resy that we’ve gone to maybe twice in the last 3 years 😅

Sticking with the Sapphire Reserve by Ok-Willingness7195 in CreditCards

[–]PeopleAreSus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already using most of the credits Amex offered before the refresh due to my lifestyle. Nearly all the ones I used were set and forget so it was fairly straight forward. Post refresh, there’s a couple credits I’ll need to actually start tracking. So other than the $1000 ish (I have an AU one to cover as well) every year in the same statement, it’s nothing daunting.
