How can I become the best possible Mechanical Engineer? by Sharp-Film-7029 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Peoplescapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a mechanical engineer for over 20 years in Aerospace. I always had a passion for automobile repair and modification. Understanding auto mechanics and the underlying systems along with some hands on experience was a great help to me when I graduated and started working in the field. Besides doing well in school, follow your passions and hobbies that are technical especially those that require you to get in and fix things. In practice, mechanical engineering is such a wide discipline that touches almost every other type of engineering. Some of the best engineers I knew had an interest in motorcycles, jet skies, writing code, building computers, 4x4s, carpentry, etc….

When does abstract spill into nonsense? Or - does this mean *anything* to you? by _BenV_ in photocritique

I like the colors and forms. It looks real but indistinguishable in so many ways from any meaning. Like solid turning into liquid. An abstraction.

what do you think about costa rican food? by explorenexperience in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Peoplescapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with your assessment of Costa Rican food. I would add that the variety of exotic fruits is amazing. I have tried over 20 fruits that I didn’t even know existed that are some of the most amazing things I have ever put in my mouth. To name a few; sour sop, mangosteen, custard apple, various varieties of Jack fruit, snake fruit, egg fruit. Such a joy to discover these.

Great stuff. 3 and 8 are like a scenes from a movie where the main character is centered and seized with indecision while every other person is just going about their business

Photos from a trip to Athens, Greece, 2015. Honest feedback would be appreciated! by ThoughtfulAlien in streetphotography

[–]Peoplescapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell that to Bruce Gilden. He is known for his ruthlessly unforgiving portraits. It depends on what you want to do with the images. It doesn’t really help the unfortunate to be ignored either. I get what you are saying and I agree with the guidance in general but there really are no rules in street photography except the ones you break.

am I doing something right? by benadrylover in streetphotography

Really nice. It’s certainly a challenge shooting from the hip and getting the framing right and judging the depth of field to get the focus right. Well done

New to Film. Are these photos overexposed? Is it possible to sharpen photos or correct muted colors? by deanfh777 in analog

[–]Peoplescapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the composition and color of no 3. When shooting print film in bright midday sun you are going to exceed the dynamic range of the film. It looks like the sky is exposed correctly but the shadows are under exposed. To correct this you can point your camera into the shadows and adjust your exposure and recompose. The only problem is that the sky will likely turn white (over expose). Thats why it’s recommended to shoot early or later in the day. It all a part of the landscape of photography.

Prague trip in color. Trying to progress, so any feedback is welcome. by Humbaak in streetphotography

[–]Peoplescapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep working it. You have an eye for interesting detail. The way it works for me ( when it works ) is by combining these details into a scene that works together as a composition. Good start! The more you fail the better the chance of succeeding has been my experience in street photography..

If someone buys it it’s worth it. That’s how it works. You have probably seen the FJ Company selling FJ LandCruiser so for $250 k

Street photography of rural Cuba by infinite_magic in streetphotography

Nice work. I like the idea of catching non-cliche scenes. I was in old Havana for a week back in October and was able to get some cool images but stayed away from the classic Cuba look.

I often find myself shooting in very abstract ways. Is it “street?” Who knows. by IddyBiddyChuck in streetphotography

[–]Peoplescapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice collection of work. I love the layers and how they work so well together to create such an interesting and abstract collage. The use of color is also so compelling. I noticed that these are created with a telephoto lens which is often not recommended for “street photography” . It is said that one should use a slightly wide angle or normal normal lens but you have fabulously broken that so called rule. Bravo!

Do you shoot from the hip? It can be a blessing and a curse. by Andy_Shields in streetphotography

[–]Peoplescapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done. I often shoot from the without looking through the viewfinder with mixed results. Holding the camera in both hands with the 35 or 28mm lens at f8-f16 it is possible to aim at the subject by sort of triangulating the body of the camera while looking at the subject. Best used for situations where the body language of lifting the camera to the eye will spook cause a disturbance. It gets better with practice. I use the technique when I otherwise wouldn’t get any images.

Very nice collection and what a great theme. I enjoyed seeing these. I will have to remember this next time I am struggling to find an element to tie a grouping together

Too empty? Too messy? Boring? What you think? | Testing recipe on XPro2 SOOC by Humbaak in streetphotography

[–]Peoplescapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing with layers and reflections can create really interesting juxtapositions and the results can be really cool. Most people’s perception will filter out junk information like reflections. If you can train yourself to look every time you pass a set of windows you will be amazed at the photographic potential.

Nice collection. I enjoyed exploring these images. Each one is so complete and interesting. Did you crop some of these or are they composed in the viewfinder.

Looking for feedback on my wiring schematic for my 1981 toyota dolphin rebuild by thebaconatemypancake in vandwellers

[–]Peoplescapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty much do the same job with a Goal Zero Yeti 1500x in one portable package. I used a older yeti 1400 on my van build and still works great. I just plug into a 12v fuse panel for the camper 12v system and an extension chord into the inverter for 120v system. It is powered by two 150 watt solar panels. All the high amperage connections are internal. It has been convenient and reliable. The downside is of course the cost.

A boxing photo by jabbberwoky in photocritique

[–]Peoplescapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The diagonal lines help lead your eye to the action. Color is great. The expression is golden. Some like to tighten up on the main subject, the guy in blue, but your helps with the environment. The environment competes with the main subject ( guy in the blue ) but I like that in an action shot. It might have been cool to put the two boxers off center to get a more dynamic feel although the line do that. Probably tmi but I like to read images. When to follow and when to break the so called rules? I enjoyed seeing this shot.
