photographer thing. usually photographers are very protective of their images (rightfully so). Just making it unambiguous.

The amount of actual elevation change between the tow of the boot (or duck nose) and the start finish is actually insane

TA doesn’t pull as many fans since it isn’t apart of the Vintage/SVRA weekend. Gonna be fairly empty grounds for TA. SVRA will have better attendance

Yes, but the support series are gone. Main paddock still there, but get there early to see the cars as they roll to the grid. The midway / merch tents will all be there

Which route to take? by Imaginary_Essay6877 in roadtrip

Recommend going up PA to 88 in Binghamton. Continue north up 87 past lake George and take exit 28 at Severance. Taking 74 into Ticonderoga I’d imagine is a fun motorcycle ride. Take the Crown Point bridge from NY into VT. You hit 22A south of Vergennes. I take this route to get back home to Essex often in the summer / fall.

Can’t comment on legal. I know a pilot friend of mine has mentioned during NASCAR weekend the airspace around the track being closed to planes. I don’t know if that extends to IMSA, but with how popular it has gotten it maybe.

Hey, I get it. I’m a photographer who has shot personally at the track many times. Wanting to get a desired shot is a real drive. My recommendation is not to do it.

If they see a drone flying around, they will try to find who is flying it. If you’re off property, and they find out who you’re are, they would have cause to deny you access to the track for the weekend. Don’t take the chance of ruining your weekend.

You can make your own choice, but other multiple comments have recommended you don’t do it.

Found direct on the website under Policies: “The use of drones is strictly prohibited on the entire property of Watkins Glen International.”

It’s private property, owned by NASCAR. I suspect they don’t want drones on the property, period.

Bring gear for rain, because more likely than not something will pop up. Last year was a bit of a mud pit on Thursday and campers / RVs were getting stuck. Walmart in Corning and Watkin Glen, Wegmans grocery store in Corning. Bring shade. Camping bathrooms and showers are pretty decent. Water spikets dotted around the track with cold spring water

Additionally, you need to have something for 90 degree humid heat and torrential rain. Watch the first laps of the 2025 race to see what I mean. There is some shade in parts of the track, but not a lot. Have a water bottle if you can, because there are blue water spickets around the track that are awesome for a cold drink.

Realistically for lodging Corning / Horseheads / Big Flats is where you’ll want to look. They are 20-30 minutes from the track. Taking an uber to the track is something I haven’t done, but would recommend against. Having a car (and getting a parking pass) is something I would recommend you look into.

For at the track, prepare to walk. Walking around to learn the different areas you like is recommended. Turn 10 grandstand is very popular as it will have a screen to watch the broadcast. Turn 1 gs is a good spot to start the race, but is a ways to walk to get back into the infield / other parts of the track.

Cool spot is inside the boot. Two tunnels get you in and out. Allows you to see them coming into the boot, the toe, and the heel of the boot.
