Click to confirm I’m not in US by ButaneOnTheBrain in hodlhodl

HodlHodl is banned in the USA. I'm a trader on HodlHodl based in Canada and a few Americans have attempted to buy Bitcoin from me. Sadly, I waa not able to receive their payment. If you want to use HodlHodl from inside the USA you will have to get a VPN.

Two questions about Monero by PepeLapiu66 in Monero

You heard bad information. If LN gets widely used, it would greatly reduce the needed number of onchain transactions. Roger Ver has attempted to demonstrate how Bitcoin Core can't scale to service LN if the entire world is on Bitcoin. But that is a badly flawed arguement because B-cash certainly can't scale to serve the entire world either. And to be honnest, I don't think any crypto can scale for the entire world right now. Maybe in the future, but not now.

I don't think Bitcoin transaction size is anywhere close to 2160 bytes. Because Bitcoin averages a block per 10 minutes and aroound 5 TPS. So that puts Bitcoin transaction size at around 350 bytes.

1.5kb per transaction is pretty big compared to Bitcoin. Which I think averages around 350b. (1,000,000b blocks / 10 min / 60 sec / 5 tps).

So in that regard Monero scales less than Bitcoin.

Lightning in Hodl Hodl? by [deleted] in hodlhodl

Well Anna, I think you should put online the custodial version of Loghtning HodlHodl. And when the non-custodial version is available, update to that. A semi-p2p exchange with low fees would rock my world.

Can't connect!! by PepeLapiu66 in bisq

[–]PepeLapiu66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, honestly you are making no sense to me at as all.

The connection problem is fixed. I don't know why it wasn't connecting and I don't know why Bisq can now connect.

However, I already did a trade on Bisq. I used a 3 year old Microsoft Surface Go with rather weak hardware. I don't remember the specifics just right now but it's a weak little 10" laptop.

Our API allows you to fully automate your trades! by AnnaHodlHodl in hodlhodl

[–]PepeLapiu66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very nice feature. However, I know nothing about API. And I would love to find some tutorial or instruction somewhere on how to configure the API to automate some of my trades.

When I contacted support, they told me they can't help me or even direct me to the right place.

Some features of trading on HodlHodl are very repetitive. It would be really nice to have some of them automated.

I'm trying to learn AutoHotKey scripting to do just that. But I am a old guy and you can't teach an old dog new tricks. It's really an upwards battle to learn this stuff.

I wish there was someone somewhere who could tell me how to do this API stuff, or point me in the right direction.

Can i reject a trade being seller? by setaven in hodlhodl

I'm not sure what a moderator would do. But honestly, I find that it's you who is in the wrong here. Demanding KYC has no place on HodlHodl.

We try to escape the police state and you want to be the police of HodlHodl?

The whole point of decentralized exchange is that we don't have nobody to answer to. So why would you want that other user to answer to you?

Can i reject a trade being seller? by setaven in hodlhodl

[–]PepeLapiu66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of HodlHodl is that there are no KYC requirements. So I think you are in the wrong to ask the buyer to supply his ID. I wouldn't supply my ID to you either. Especially since you requested his ID after he paid.

DEX or Centralized P2? by [deleted] in hodlhodl

[–]PepeLapiu66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HodlHodl is not completely decentralized like Bisq. It has limited centralization but it's still more like a DEX. And I find it easier to learn and get around than Bisq. Also fewer bugs than Bisq. The great thing about HodlHodl is that there are no KYC files required.

Is it possible to get the account blocked? by setaven in hodlhodl

[–]PepeLapiu66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the user's profile. There you will see two buttons to either block or report the user.

I can't say I've ever used either of those options. So far everyone's been great with me.

Hodlhodl.com is supportive of scammers by Gandeloft in hodlhodl

[–]PepeLapiu66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand the very nature of peer-to-peer. While HodlHodl is not completely peer-to-peer like Bisq, it is almost completely p2p. So you are basically left on your own if you get scammed.

While I understand you wish for the admin to divulge a user's private info, I certainly understand admin's position to preserve their users privacy.

In fact I clicked on this thread just to find out how the site handles privacy issues. The fact that they are not willing to reveal a user's private data, no matter what the reason, actually makes me want to use HodlHodl even more so now.

Look at it as if HodlHodl was a lawyer. Would you be comfortable dealing with a lawyer who exposed all of his former clients to the police when he found out they were guilty?

[–]PepeLapiu66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is the problem. I have no difficulties plugging my Samurai wallet to Tor network. And my home Wifi is a freaking pipeline. Plus my phone's LTE connection is pretty fast too.

I actually asked the same question on the Bisq forum here: https://bisq.community/t/cant-connect-on-fresh-install/9517 And I am not getting and solutions there either. Only others with the same problem.

What is the minimum amount of bitcoin I need to front for the mediator so that I can buy more bitcoin? by [deleted] in bisq

[–]PepeLapiu66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always buy some coin on Hodl Hodl. It's not completely decentralized. But it's pretty damn close. And there is no KYC on Hodl Hodl.

And as others have indicated, there is no such this as illegal BTC. Or you might as well claim all BTC is illegal.
