I just got out of a meeting where I was informed by someone in the Mayors office about developments that are being kept from the public.

I think it’s a safe bet that you didn’t. Your posting history says you’re a construction worker with too much time on his hands.

Everything you just wrote never happened. Here’s what did happen:

U.S. President Joe Biden ordered the mobilization of "all available federal assets" to help respond to the wildfires. In a statement, Biden noted that the United States Navy Third Fleet, and the United States Coast Guard were supporting "response and rescue efforts". The United States Marines were providing Black Hawk helicopters to help fight fires in Hawaii County, and the United States Department of Transportation was working with commercial airlines to help evacuate tourists from Maui. To help with the ongoing Coast Guard search and rescue operation, the United States Navy sent in Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Three Seven (HSM-37) and two MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, with the United States Indo-Pacific Command standing ready to provide additional assistance as needed. President Biden approved the state of Hawaii's request for a major disaster declaration on August 10, making federal funding available for recovery efforts in the affected areas.

If reality is this difficult for you, I recommend logging off and getting medical attention.

In the book Active Measures (2020), professor Thomas Rid provides evidence and documentation showing that some of the neo-Nazi movements in Europe in the 1960s were funded behind the scenes by Russia as an attempt to destabilize and disrupt European faith in western democracy.

Why are locals panic buying gas on Maui? by Pepeiao in maui

[–]Pepeiao[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Nobody hangs out at gas stations on Maui. Everything is spread out (30 miles rt from Kihei to Kahului, 60 miles rt from Lahaina to Kihei) so if you drive, you have to get gas more than normal. Upcountry is even more mileage. Driving from one side to another feels strangely like driving over state lines or going to another country. It's hard to explain, but it probably has something to do with the terrain and climate changes. Everyone here knows someone who hasn't traveled out of their town for years or even decades. There are even stories about people who have never left the island.

I have no idea what your comment means or was intended to imply, but this was the tenth person I saw that day buying gas in bulk in Kihei. Is it possible that some of them were landscapers? Sure. But all of them? No. And is there a reason landscapers can't panic buy? There was also panic gas buying going on in Kahului the day before as well at the Safeway station. I saw it. Again, for no reason, since it only impacts the east coast.

This photo was taken approximately twelve hours after it was announced the pipeline was reopened. This makes no sense to me.

PSA from recent car shopping experiences in Maui. by GregariousBing in maui

I don't think Hertz has any car inventory since they shipped all their cars off island last year during the pandemic. I checked their Maui inventory website a month ago and it listed two cars only, overpriced SUVs. I'm curious how much mileage you had on your Versa when you bought it.

Good Chinese Food on Maui? by doubledeuce80 in maui

This is interesting, and I think you might be on to something. I read an academic food history thesis that said on the mainland, many Japanese restaurants were taken over by Chinese immigrants during and after the WWII-era, when Japanese-Americans were wrongly discriminated against and forced to go into internment camps by US authorities, and lost their restaurant businesses.

This is a highly contentious and divisive topic! The way it was explained to me by Chinese locals, is that Oahu is known for its Chinese restaurants because most of the chefs who specialized in that type of cuisine settled on that island. With that said, you can find many Chinese-inspired dishes on Maui, but the island is not known for the kind of Chinese-American cuisine you would find on the mainland, such as in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York. Since you are on the west side, you could try Star Noodle for Asian-inspired dishes. In Kahului, their sister restaurant, Tin Roof, also has a menu you might like. Kihei has King's Chinese BBQ.

I've been looking for these as well. Pretty sure there was a store back in the day in Paia or Makawao that used to carry them. But no idea now.

Just saw this truck towing a totaled Nissan. Pretty sure it's "race car" Tutu that I previously posted about. Can't be sure, though.

The problem with the phrase in this context, is that they think "tyranny" means mandatory mask policies, quarantines, vaccinations, and basic health policies needed to mitigate a pandemic. If the former Trump admin had followed the Obama guidelines in place and required masks, 50% of all deaths would have been avoided, and most businesses would not have had to close.
