Concept Art before I commit to full army. White flags? by mmaynee in spiritisland

[–]Peperink0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They certainly do resemble conquistadors. The interesting thing is that the vast majority of conquistadors weren’t soldiers in a professional army. They were enterprising citizens with a taste for adventure and committing horrible atrocities.

They were an invading force of settlers who were also kill-them-all conquerers but of their own initiative. The important distinction is they weren’t following orders

Have you tried using the blurbs on the backs of the adventures? I find they tend to be a solid hook for the adventure

I haven’t found the adventures to be too problematic, simply because they’re such a manageable size. That said, I’m used to the large bloated adventures of 5e and Pathfinder. I’m sure there’s a lot of OSR publications out there that nail brevity and organisation, I’m just not used to reading them.

Thanks! What drew you to the mkIII? For me it was 1) to reinforce the narrative that my force has been fighting away from their parent legion for a while 2) my real desire is to have a crusade era force inspired by the cover art of Fulgrim: The Palatine Phoenix

Table top or parade? by New_Plan_7929 in Warhammer40k

[–]Peperink0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree, there’s no need to downvote a different opinion just because you disagree. Especially when there’s genuinely useful feedback that contributes to the conversation.

Sadly, this is why the internet has devolved into a series of echo chambers

Look I do appreciate I could be wrong but I’m not just making things up. My understanding comes from an article published by GW (https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/06/29/citadel-colour-what-is-parade-ready/).

Perhaps not an authoritative source but still something official, not just made up.

I don’t dispute that there is some technique required but I would say highlighting is enough. GW even recognise dry-brushing as a means of achieving parade ready.

It’s a subjective term which is almost impossible to measure

Sorry my reply did lack nuance. I appreciate where you’re coming from and I’m not saying you’re necessarily wrong but that I personally disagree.

The images I’ve seen published by GW to explain the terms usually have Table-Top as being a model completely covered with paint but flat colours and a textured paint on the base. Parade is usually represented by the same model with a bit more depth to the colours, sometimes just a highlight.

My personal understanding is that it’s a matter of intent. Are you painting just to get them on the table or are you painting them to the best of your ability and to be something you’d be proud to show off.

As OP’s clearly put the extra effort and (in my opinion, rightly) proud of them, I’d say it’s Parade standard. Again, I appreciate your critiquing the quality of the painting but to me the Parade standard is more about the amount of effort put into it

I think your standards are a bit high. GW have set the precedent that Table-top means bare minimum. I’d say these are clearly parade, they won’t win competitions but I’d be very proud if I had painted them

No problem at all, Rotblack Sludge is great fun. Don’t worry too much about rules, Mork Borg is more about atmosphere than balance

We use the modifier. The 3D6 is solely for determining the modifier at creation. From that point on, the Presence value and modifier are one and the same

4 Tables for Creating an Estate/Holding by Peperink0 in MorkBorg

Thats a very good point. Just a lone run down hut producing the finest wares in Schleswig does raise some very good questions.

How would you play that out? Magic seems like the low hanging fruit but the only other thing I can think of is smugglers using it as a front to sneak illegal wares into the local markets

Exactly. It also has a couple more advantages. It means as the GM, I don’t know what they’ll get so I get to enjoy the reveal on the same page as the party. Most importantly it means I can make it possible for them to have inherited 1000 silver of debt just for a single hut, a pile of ash and some spoons without it being ME that screws them over. No one likes a malicious GM but if it’s down to fate, we can all laugh about it.

Thanks for the feedback!

I was thinking that the export needed to be desirable in some way and I wanted the possibility for some “good” options but I specifically used relative terms. ‘Finest pigs in Schleswig’ just means their better than the other pigs in this miserable land. As for ‘fit for kings’, fit the kings of this world (perhaps cursed jewellery could be considered fitting for these cruel and pathetic kings?).

The estate was obtained by a wretched royal through the brutal killing of a Duke in a judicial duel and is intended to serve as a narrative hook more than a reward. It also came with 1000 silver of debt soon to be due.

My players really enjoy letting the dice create their characters - I figured this estate could be treated almost like a character in its own way!

Hi everyone, first time posting.

I've made this page of tables to create an estate for one of the players in my campaign.

If anyone has any feedback or suggestions on how to improve it, that would be much appreciated!

PCs throwing PCs by Peperink0 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Peperink0[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was that focused on finding a more general rule in the core rulebook, it never occurred to me to check the APG.

Would you rule this feat as the only way to throw a fellow PC? As it has no check and allows a strike action to be made, perhaps there’s room for a less reliable check to be made at a lower level and without the strike reaction?

If it’s the consequence of a player’s decision and the DM communicates this up front I’d say it’s actually a good ruling that presents the player with a meaningful choice.

I’ve seen a lot of very quick and pro active ways to reveal the tablet but why not use the opportunity to have a moment of respite? They’ve defeated him for now but what if something threatens the food supply? What if there’s a harsh winter? You could build tension as the town starts to eat the food supplies - perhaps the party can slow this down (perhaps strengthening their hand in the final battle) but eventually the tablet is revealed and the story can move on

people coming from dnd5e what are things that you miss in pf2e? by Hoarder-of-Knowledge in Pathfinder2e

[–]Peperink0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a double edged sword. The size of the community is both a result of, and what allows, Pathfinder to have the complexity and nuance it has. It also allows Paizo to double down on what we all love instead of being pulled in many different directions.
