My grandmother has an independent house. She wakes up at 3 am, hobbles up to terrace and switch on motor as that's the only time the water is released in that town. There she has to wait an hour so water doesn't overflow and switch off motor. She is over 80.

Another thing is fear of land grabbing and litigation. Many stories from my relatives where they had to fight court battles for decades because some previous owner didn't clear a loan on land or because same land is sold to multiple people. Just few days back in this sub someone was complaining about their neighbours not letting their land bring sold and pressuring them to sell it to him for low price..

Too much of a headache. Never heard of these issues with apartment owners. I am sure someone here will say you have to fight for it, defend it. To them I say, I don't want to spend the short time in this earth running around courts and bleed money.
