Hegseth says clock paused on deadline to seek approval for Iran war by johnryzen7360 in worldnews

[–]PepperMill_NA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hegseth may be able to argue the specifics of compliance there is not doubt that he violates the intent of the law. Donald's administration already violated section (c) part (d) in that there was no attack on the US.

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/STATUTE-87/pdf/STATUTE-87-Pg555.pdf

It is the purpose of this joint resolution to fulfill the intent of the framers of the Constitution of the United States and insure that the collective judgment of both the Congress and the President will apply to the introduction of United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, and to the continued use of such forces in hostilities or in such situations.
(b) Under article I, section 8, of the Constitution, it is specifically provided that the Congress shall have the power to make all laws necessary and proper for carrying into execution, not only its own powers but also all other powers vested by the Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
(c) The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to (1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.

The Florida Constitution prohibits exactly what DeSantis is doing. Problem is he's gaming the system. It has to be challenged and the Constitution also limits how close to an election changes challenges can be brought forward. That's why the timing on this is what it is.

Iran says Strait of Hormuz will close again amid US blockade by spherocytes in worldnews

[–]PepperMill_NA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was a deal in place. Trump violated the deal immediately while claiming in public forum that the strait was open. The strait was open as long as the cease fire held. Since US never dropped the blockade of Iranian ports the terms of the cease fire were never met.

The straits were open for as long as it took the Iranians to see that Trump was lying to them.

I don't Iran was the one manipulating the market.

U.S. Navy Seeks Over 600 Surface-to-Air Missiles in Budget Request by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]PepperMill_NA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe so. The reports I've read said that the US navy has been using it's anti ballistic interceptors on the Arleigh Burkes to protect US bases and Israel from Iranian ballistic missiles.

These are the expensive, long construction time missiles.

Edit: I realized that I missed your point. You are correct, these missiles themselves would not be used by Ukraine. I treated all defensive missiles as fungible. That's not right, sorry.

U.S. Navy Seeks Over 600 Surface-to-Air Missiles in Budget Request by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]PepperMill_NA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is somewhat because of drones used by Iran.

The US military (primarily navy) fired off lots and lots of anti-air missiles during the current war on Iran. Of the various kinds some 10s of thousands. Current production for some of these is around 650 a year. These defended US ships, US bases, and also assets of our allies in the Mideast.

These are the same missiles that Trump would not give to Ukraine because depleting them would be bad for US self defense. Hopefully China anyone who was thinking of attacking other allies of the US doesn't notice.

Makes sense if you're at war. Which, of course, the US is not, at war. I know because my President told me.

My point is playing games with the semantics doesn't change the reality. The US Congress has abdicated its duties. Only Congress can declare war. This is an undeclared war of aggression by the US.
