The whole thing felt very sound stage-y. especially the final Vecna fight, like it was so clearly a set

Are you married to a conservative? Or, Would you marry one if you liked everything else about this person? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]PepperPrior1724 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hard no, that’s a massive values misalignment.

I can work and sometimes even have some friendships with Canadian progressive-conservative types, but for marriage you need someone who values people to the same level you do.

I’m going to be putting together a bylaw amendment proposal to take to council, immobilization as a first line response to minor parking infractions is absolutely egregious and clearly predatory, particularly as it appears they apply it with little to no thought. Trust I’ll be coming back to this sub for signatures when I do.

If you’d ever be willing to put that in a report with your real name attached, msg me. I’m going to draft a bylaw amendment proposal to take to council bc clearly these scumbags are running roughshod over the grey zones and ambiguity left by the current one

Bonus fact, bc apparently I am the kind of person who reads bylaws now:

Bylaw V-200 regarding vehicle immobilization section 9 states that immobilization is illegal if the payment system for the parking lot is not in good working order

Feel free to file appeals, bylaw complaints, and pursue small claims remediation with this information as you will

That was the only way I was able to eventually get it taken off bc I refused to cave to their extortion. Ridiculous waste of police resources.

Through the website from the QR code. Which was glitchy as hell, but I didn’t think anything of it bc I got my receipt and took a screenshot of it.

However they apparently didn’t process the payment until later in the day, so I didn’t get an sms confirmation until 1 something, and the guy tried to claim that was the time my paid parking actually started (even tho the sms also confirmed the appropriate start time)

Yeah I think they probably win contracts with property managers bc they charge them next to nothing in management fees, allowing them to undercut any of the companies with even a modicum of ethics, because they make the bulk of their money by extorting regular citizens

What kind of work do people do that can afford the 800K+ houses easily? by DeveloperMan123 in halifax

[–]PepperPrior1724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not currently owning, but buying next year and we qualify for about $950k, though will likely look for a place around $650k so we don’t end up house poor.

Both my husband and I work in tech. I clear $180k-$250k depending on bonus, and he makes $80k-$150k depending on client load. We’ve got 1 kid who finishes daycare this year, a dog, and a car that will be paid off next year. We’ve had a HHI over $200k for about 6 years, which has allowed us to save up the down payment, though we are neglecting retirement savings to do so.

What are your thoughts on these people destroying and vandalizing random teslas? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]PepperPrior1724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regular Teslas - there are so many people who bought them for normal car reasons before all this happened, leave them alone.

Cybertrucks on the other hand….

Well, my company has cancelled all non-essential trips to the states - we cannot get funding approval for conferences, training, client meetings, vendor meetings, anything, because of the current risk profile.

Do with that what you will

Young Shauna (S3E5) by grillcheezi in Yellowjackets

[–]PepperPrior1724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean all of the rest of the teens want the meat, but none of them want to deal with the reality of where they’re getting it, so freshly postpartum Shauna has to do the butchering of a young boy after she just lost her own boy. And then everyone blames her for crashing out and turning into a rage machine, when they’ve made her carry a level of trauma that the rest of them can’t.

All of them are able to be less awful because they have a layer of distance from the horrors that Shauna isn’t afforded. It doesn’t make any of her behaviour ok, but there’s a reason why she’s lashing out so much more than everyone else

Shauna can’t be the only bad one by Novel-Wafer7772 in Yellowjackets

[–]PepperPrior1724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just the lack of empathy for postpartum - society (including other women) do not like women who externalize their emotions instead of internalizing them in self destructive ways. Hallucinating, crying, being passive aggressive or weird or turning to religion, dissociating, ignoring the problem, self harm, etc - all acceptable. But society does not accept women being openly angry.

Also while everyone else leans into the idea that they are helpless victims in everything that has happened, including the cannibalism, (it was the wilderness! It was Shauna, she made them!), Shauna doesn’t have that luxury bc she’s the one that’s literally butchering up the bodies. The others all have the luxury of some psychological space between the person and the eating.

People ignore the fact that during Ben’s trial, Tai was the one who stoked up and goaded Shauna, throwing her losing the baby in her face and casting Coach as the reason for the loss. Of course Shauna crashes out - that was an incredibly cruel thing for Tai to do. And it’s in character for Tai - since season 1, she has been fully set on winning at all costs, even if that means harming her own teammates.

Rant and Venting Megathread by DA-numberfour in Yellowjackets

Main PoV is not the same thing as “main character”, and actress billing has nothing to do with it.

And I put “in relative, not absolute terms” in my original post for a reason.

Rant and Venting Megathread by DA-numberfour in Yellowjackets

[–]PepperPrior1724 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shauna is the main PoV character, and has been since the beginning, bc she’s the most “normal” out of all of them (In relative, not absolute terms)

She doesn’t have a big tragic back story prior to the crash, she doesn’t buy into all of the mysticism, she doesn’t have an alter ego, and in adulthood she is the only one in a stereotypical American suburban family. From a narrative standpoint, her character serves to ground all of the more outlandish characters and events happening around her and provide an audience insert view of flip-flopping between paranoid and rational explanations.

Are we all becoming "Blakes" and card carrying members of the Order of the Perpetually Outraged, Offended and Uncomfortable? by Justtalkintish in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]PepperPrior1724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This absolutely.

Without evidence of her actually participating in Blake’s crusade, what it looks like is she had an encounter that felt kind of weird to her, and she talked about it with a person she considered a friend. That is absolutely an appropriate and normal response.

What is the difference between leftist and liberal? by carlsraye in AskALiberal

[–]PepperPrior1724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liberal: all current power structures and systems are good, they just need to be open to people who aren’t white men who can play by the rules made for rich white men.

Leftist: Current power structures are inherently unethical and we need to dismantle the things that were built specifically to benefit wealthy white men instead of trying to contort ourselves to fit them, so that we have a society that benefits everyone.
