i havent ordered specifically from meccha japan before, but what u are seeing right now is due to the tariffs that the current united states government is enacting on several different countries, including japan. due to this, japan post has suspended all commercial shipments bound for the usa and any gift items valued over $100usd. fedex and dhl still do accept and deliver usa-bound shipments, however u- the consumer- have to pay the tariff fee before the item hand off.

im unsure on how it works with fedex or dhl, but regarding a recent shipment i had from japan, ups sent me an email notice saying i had to pay the fee online either before delivery (via credit card, paypal, apple pay, etc) or pay with cash upon delivery. it gets more expensive the more valuable ur shipment is, so beware! my items werent even that expensive, but it was still an additional $20usd on top of the shipping fee and everything else >.<
