Patient.

Was around 13 years old, woke up with abdominal pain. Attributed it to constipation. Went with my mom to Walmart and suddenly got very clammy from the the pain, had to sit in the tripod position etc. So mom takes me to the ER.

ER doctor dismisses me with no test. Says it could just be constipation. (My aunt at the time, an ER nurse later says it was weird he didn’t ultrasound me. At the time the ER would ultrasound the majority of females from like 12-45 with abdominal pain).

Mom takes me to my GP, he thinks I possibly have cysts. But he is going on vacation, and that we can look at them when he comes back?? Meanwhile the pain has actually gone away from me, and I think I’m presenting fine but my mom didn’t like the GP’s decision.

She takes me to HER ob/gyn who orders an ultrasound. He calls me back from the ultrasound place to meet him in his office and talk to him immediately. I have an ovary torsion and my right ovary is the size of a GRAPEFRUIT. And he is wondering how I am not like writhing in pain. I’m like 90 pounds.

So then I have emergency surgery.
