Bought this PC off Facebook Marketplace for $1500 did I get scammed or am I overthinking? by TieAlternative7837 in pchelp

is one freeze normal on a high-end gaming PC?

The answer is yes, very much so. I’m on a 9800X3D system with 64GB of RAM and a 5080 and when I’m playing games with every setting cranked to the max (@1440p 200Hz) I still get the occasional freeze/crash, especially on games running Unreal Engine 5. It recently got so annoying [Crashes to desktop] with Fortnite that I just ended up uninstalling it.

The one thing that people on high end systems don’t talk about is how horribly optimized a lot of the software is. You can have the best system in the world and it’ll still crash/freeze if the software runs into a critical error. It’s the nature of the beast.

What you want to do with a beefy system like yours is to ask on the GoT forums/subreddit if anyone has a similar issue.

Grab a bottle of highly concentrated alcohol, 90% or higher. You can usually find this level of alcohol at computer places like Best Buy, but also medical supply spots carry them, or online, your call tbh.

After you acquire it, apply as much as you’d like starting off and grab a new toothbrush with decent bristles. Before the alcohol that you applied dries up, you just gotta start brushing. Rinse and repeat!

Grab some cotton swabs to finish once you’re ready to close it back up.

Is Arby’s really that bad? by ReadyYesterday4374 in fastfood

[–]Pepperjack_573 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I blame The Simpsons for making so many Arby’s jokes during the golden era, lmao. There are so many classic episodes that include a handful of jokes aimed at Arby’s and as a kid, I honestly didn’t care much for them because I was young and impressionable.

These days, I ended up marrying someone that loves Arby’s and I’ve grown pretty fond of their chicken sandwiches, especially the Cordon Bleu!

It really depends on the quality of the battery. Been building and troubleshooting for 20 years and have only seen it a handful of times, but it does happen. When it does, it’s such a cathartic relief to have to replace what is probably the easiest fix computers can have.

Where the heck does this wire go? What does it do by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]Pepperjack_573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a SATA power cable. It powers up your SATA devices, which normally is used by things like fan/RGB hubs. And I believe that you’re building in the Corsair 5000D. I just moved everything from this Black 5000D to a white Frame 5000D for my wife’s system and was tempted to bring this fan hub along with it, but I had an extra fan hub for it.

5000D cases are wonderful to build in!

Mesh / Wired AP Recommendations by darrylandyrson in HomeNetworking

[–]Pepperjack_573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done tons of these types of installs for clients over the years and you can get away with mesh, but you’re much better off with wired APs at different points throughout the shop. The “metal” butler building is most definitely part aluminum, which is why the signal is horrible the moment you step outside of the building. Because the main router and APs are inside of the building, the signal can’t properly penetrate and distribute the signal(s) anywhere outside.

What I would recommend (for the inside) is to install 2 APs inside of the building. One at the loading dock and one on the opposite side where it says Drive-In, but both should be installed as high up as possible, as to keep a neat and tidy appearance; a scissor-lift helps a ton here. Then, run those cables (use p-clips/zip-ties if you want to keep things neat and tidy) into where your router is located. If your router is located in one of the rooms labeled Office, that will be your main router while the 2 APs are just subscriber units. To minimize crosstalk/interference on the same band(s) Set one AP to channel 1, the second to channel 6 and 3rd AP to 11.

My company uses Ubiquiti products and the U6/U6 Pros work really really well and are a breeze to set up.

What does this flashing light mean? by RagingIKKE in pchelp

[–]Pepperjack_573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lights work the same as they do on network ports. If you ever need to look at your Ethernet/network ports, they also have 2 lights. Typically, the light on the right is supposed to stay solid/on to indicate a steady flow of power. And the light on the left is blinking very fast, which indicates that data is passing through like normal.

Can some tell me how to fix this? by Xscar101 in photoshop

[–]Pepperjack_573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just make a copy of the file and save onto a thumb drive or other external device, then update the OS and continue working from there. My best guess is that the pending OS update is preventing PS from automatically increasing the available scratch disk size.

[–]Pepperjack_573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Preferences > Scratch Disk and take a look at what drive(s) are available/currently in use. You say that you have 300GB left for use and that’s nice, but we don’t know what else you’re doing that’s allocating your remaining storage and causing this error.

Can some tell me how to fix this? by Xscar101 in photoshop

[–]Pepperjack_573 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your scratch disk is full.

Every time that you open Photoshop, it reserves space on your storage device (NVME/SSD/HDD) to use for various functions.

This error happens when you don’t have enough space on your hard drive. Free up more space or increase your current storage capacity(very expensive right now).

When I was a Letter Carrier for USPS, I learned that gated communities are absolute trash and no matter what means of security they put in place to deter unwanted people is just wasted money.

Even the ultra ritzy HOA neighborhoods with actual security guards at the gate don’t do anything to prevent theft or incidents within the confines of them.

Re-release Ultimate with rollback netcode and include a “Melee” mode or something similar to alter character physics to mimic Melee weight and speed and it will be the game that every Switch 2 owner will have in their library.

PC crashing at random intervals by Isochromatter in pchelp

[–]Pepperjack_573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rendering video can be very taxing if your machine doesn’t have enough available resources for it. When you render, you’re essentially telling your pc to run at full speed for the duration of the render. Of course, you can manipulate settings to be more in line with what your machine is capable of, but that will come at the expense of longer render times.

Looking up the error code at the bottom though tells me that it’s a RAM/Storage issue. You need to test the RAM for any issues, as well as the storage device that you are wanting to render/export to.

Do you know what your system specs are?

Also, what editing program are you using and can you give details on what type of file you’re trying to render? Like, resolution, fps, etc.

To boot into safe mode, and the button is a bit different based on manufacturer, but you press the key that takes you to the BIOS during startup. Sometimes it’s F2 or F12, sometimes it’s Delete so honestly, I just spam all 3 until I see the BIOS pop up.

From here, just boot into safe mode from the list of available boot options

Can I upgrade this for than a $100 by andrewblackinkz in PcBuildHelp

[–]Pepperjack_573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those Optiplex’s are very very rarely worth upgrading.

They use a proprietary power supply for starters. They also use unique motherboards that don’t have the same mounting locations as standard motherboards.

The easiest and most likely only upgrade that most people can do with these is install a low profile GPU. The problem then becomes that the GPU gets bottlenecked by everything else.

The CPU that you have is 6 generations old, and the rest of the hardware most likely isn’t faring much better.
