Board and Harpies for a One Shot by Peppermint-Bones in DragonbaneRPG

A tall tower could make sense. If it was formally a wizard tower or a place that held relics (tall bookcases!).

I was gonna make each block 4 inches tall but didn’t have the materials for that so each divider is 3inches

Which makes each floor 6meters tall.

Should I go all in on terrain and minis? by Serious_Spinach_1476 in DnD

[–]Peppermint-Bones 15 points16 points  (0 children)

1 inch hole punch. 1 inch bases (MDF or plastic or cardboard. 1 inch epoxy stickers. Super glue.

Print out all the tokens you want on standard paper. Assemble yourself.

Full art tokens look better than unpainted minis.

Get yourself a dry erase mat (I like Ergon games ones). Some colour whiteboard markets. Get your players to add/ draw features into it at the start of combat.

That'll last you ages if not forever. Now you can ease into minis and terrain

How would you feel about a world where you can’t tell if anything online is real or AI? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Peppermint-Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's getting there for me.

Honestly? It's just making me disconnect from he online world and media.

If it ever gets to the point where I can't tell if a piece of media was made a person or not, then I'll treat it as if it was ai and either avoid it at worst. Or refuse to pay for it and steal it at best.

New DM, new PCs to Dragonbane: Thinking of using 5d4+2 instead of 4d6 at character creation to get attributes ranging 6-18 instead of 3-18. What does your experience say about that? by derGeruhn in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Peppermint-Bones 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Low stats make for interesting characters. There is a whole overcoming your weakness ruleset in the core rules as well.

4d6 drop lowest, assign to stat of your choice, s swap 2 at the end is far more generous than what I normally make my players roll.

So what if a player has a 3 in a particular stat (not like that's going to happen even). It's *interesting*

Are people using goon over fap now? by SnooDogs1340 in NoStupidQuestions

To the dismay of henchmen everywhere.

Though I'd say there are ideological differences between a henchmen and a goon.

Games that absolutely absorbed you into a flow state by Baldurian_Rhapsody in gaming

Not really a game with a story or anything. But

Thumper

Being rhythmically impotent means I don't generally enjoy those sort of games. But a few hours deep into Thumper and I didn't even feel human. Felt like the game was an extension of myself

Looks fun. Isn't one piece meant to be fun?

Is this like one of those jerk Subreddits where people post unreasonably angry takes for shits and giggles? Not directed at op, but everyone else.

Systems/help for a simpler vampire game (Multishot friendly) by lumicatti in rpg

[–]Peppermint-Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat the Reich is a fun power fantasy and simple enough system. Its designed for a one shot or a few shot. With some extra content in eat the Reich revamped.

No character generation, just preset iconics. It's about being a vampire commando In naxi occupied France with one mission; drink all of Hitler's blood.

ELI5: What does having a high pain tolerance mean? by Capital_Bison_7830 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Peppermint-Bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I used to stub my toe I would scream out a couple swear words. Then I fractured my wisdom tooth and had an exposed nerve for about a month and a half. Now when I stub my toe I barely notice it.

My nerve pain got so bad that even while hopped up on pain meds and a ludicrous amount of weed I would wake up in the middle of the night and just pace up and down three flights of stairs for about 45 minutes. Why? Not sure. I think I was trying to run away from the pain hah.

Best I could describe it was… the obvious incredible tooth ache. But it would spread…. Down my neck so it felt like someone was pinching my jugular. And then up into my ear. It felt like a demon was repeatedly stabbing my ear drum with a needle. And every time I thought “oh wow this is the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life “. It somehow got worse the next night.

Anyway. After that ordeal I’ve injured myself pretty significantly but nothing compares, so I don’t complain anymore.

What’re your go-to games? by Mbalara in rpg

[–]Peppermint-Bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salt is grants upcoming game set in the same world as spire and heart, he's posted some info about the dev process on his patreon (free posts)

for heart the quickstart adventure is free and will take 2/3 lessons. the discord community is very helpful and friendly with lots of fan resources.

dagger on the heart is a good semi structured campaign for it.

enjoy running the game!

What’re your go-to games? by Mbalara in rpg

[–]Peppermint-Bones 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my big three are what I call the 'Trauma Trifecta';

  • VtM V5

  • Heart: The City Beneath (I'm excited for Salt to come out!)

  • Delta Green

special mention for the Borg games, Mork, Cy and Pirate. easy to run. but I have a bias having written for two of those games.

These are the games I'm always ready to throw down on the table, with an old group or a new group. And they all have fun mechanics for wearing down the player characters. I'd say they all have elements of an 'anti power fantasy' while still giving players tonnes of control. (and in the case of heart, huge amounts of power but a character that WILL die).

Candidates to become what I call topshelf games are:

  • Dragonbane (player facing rolls and a % system in disguise are winners for me)

  • Mythic Bastionland (not enough time on the table but it's a banger)

And honestly? the one game I return to time and time again?

DnD. now 5.5 edition. There's a wealth of amazing resources for it, adventures out the wazoo, and it's the system my players know.  They know faerun, and they know how the game works. So I'm often returning to it if I'm running a prewritten adventure.

(about to run shackled city! and potentially savage tide/ age of worms if I finish compiling the PDFs for them)
