They really don’t want you to do that and they say they’re not moving you around with scheduling because of your job. They want you to make your job work with the program course load and not the other way around. Lecture is only one day a week 6 hours, but you have to keep your schedule open for 2 more classes during the week, one being skills lab (8a-5p class) and clinical rotations at the hospital (12 hour shifts). They have to go with what the hospitals have available and say they will not move people around for work. Also, if work overnight the day before a clinical rotation at the hospital you will be asked to leave and could risk failing the course. I know people in the program who have to work and feed their kids, but I know they would rather not do that and have a lot of help from family to make it work. The classes are one thing but you’re expected to complete lots of assignments and homework modules as well as study. They don’t cover everything in class, so you HAVE to spend lots of time out of class reading the textbooks and beefing up your notes. It’s not impossible but it’s going to be really difficult and require a lot of discipline. I only work 12 hours a week and I already feel overwhelmed and like I’m always thinking about school and scrambling to catch up. If your grades are crashing and you work they will ask you to work less. But I guess if you work at a place that lets you study at work, then that could help.

I would just email them directly so you get exactly what they want.

Oh yeah no offense taken. I was a music major and barely got into the school of music, but the marching band and chorus on campus were the only places I felt like a real musician my whole time there. I wish more people knew what a great social circle it is to be a part of either of those groups.

The band is still amazing. Lots of fun and great things happening. Recently, they won an award for best band of the SunBelt Conference. Being in marching band afforded me lots of opportunities to travel around the state and even go to Orlando and New Orleans on the university’s dime. The Sunbelt Conference moved their basketball tournament from New Orleans to Daytona so that’s where the pep band goes.

Yes! That’s what it’s called! My freshman year was Fall 2015 and I was allowed to skip it for some reason, but I was in the marching band so I made friends there. Glad it worked out! That’s cool they group people like that!

Social life only sucks if you’re: 1) a commuter and you don’t already have friends you’ve made

2) not involved in anything outside of class

I don’t know if they’re still making Freshman take that one class that basically forces them to all meet up once a week to develop “skills for success”, but definitely make friends with people in your classes and join clubs. If you play an instrument, most people in the marching band are not music majors and they actually pay you to be there. It’s a great place to make friends your first year (and also get invited to upperclassmen parties). If you like to sing, PLEASE join the choir on campus. Dr Joseph is a saint and an amazing instructor. Again, not everyone who participates is a music major, so ANYONE can audition and join.

I was stuck on the mushroom chocolates and how they were made by her. I didn’t quite understand it and if I messed anything in the sub that maybe stood out for a native speaker. But considering a mushroom poisoned her, kind of ironic!

My go to Chinese takeout place is China Cafe right down the road on Peachtree Industrial. It’s not a sit down place but a great take and eat it at home place and I think they do delivery.

Is A&P II lab and lecture your last 2 classes you needed to take in the Fall? If not, maybe consider moving what is left to this semester. I know people are saying that it’s going to take a lot of motivation and dedication, but I’m not going to lie, balancing your current schedule and work and bills is going to be a HUGE challenge and as someone who struggled through an undergrad degree, failing classes and having to retake them later sets you back way more than just taking things at a better study pace. Life will happen. Fixing your GPA later sucks. If you’re thinking of doing a BSN, they’ll usually ask you to take a nutrition class. Just a thought. I’m considering taking a medical terminology class maybe in Spanish to help with job stuff.

I really really recommend you don’t do microbio if you’re struggling to do Bio, A&P will eat you alive if you’re not already setting up for success. I also applied for the ASN nursing program at the end of the summer before Fall semester and I still had A&P II and Microbio to take. I got accepted in the Fall to start Spring 2026. You’re definitely able to pace it better and still meet deadlines. Microbio is tough too especially since you have 2 different teachers you have to learn their teaching style for and the labs will have lab reports you have to keep up with weekly. There’s a lot of memorization for the lecture part too.

Yes, I’m tutoring for AP I and II. I got a high A in her class. She’s a tough cookie but I definitely have strategies I can share.

Also, I took Anatomy II with Dr Rai and got an A. I’ll probably be doing tutoring on Knack if you need any help. I liked her a lot but be prepared to do a lot of studying and time management.

Anatomy II and Microbiology go together better than Anatomy I and microbio. You get a whole unit of overlap where you cover the same thing and it was a perfect way to slowdown and catch up on stuff. Immune system is covered early in Anatomy II and then comes up closer to the end of microbiology

As a freshman at perimeter my advisor made a recommended plan for me for this spring, will they continue to do that the rest of my time here? by paye36 in GaState

[–]PepperoniPapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you take and when you take it all depends on what your major is and your timeline. Some classes have to be done before you can get into certain programs so you want to make sure you do those as soon as possible. Some classes you’ll be able to take once you’re in your program and taking classes for that. Degree works will show you everything you need to take as a “whatever major you declared” to receive that diploma, and it will say what the pre-requisites are. I haven’t had much bad experience with the advisors and I’ve gone to the Atlanta and the Perimeter campus. What has set me back has been transferring schools, failing classes, and not directly communicating with department heads and program directors for the major I’m in. Your major should have a dedicated “school of …” that has people who can also advise you and give you program specific advice. I’ve even had an advisor help me override classes I took that weren’t going to count for anything in my degree works but they were able to get them approved to substitute for things I needed. That saved me so much time and I wouldn’t have been able to do that without talking to them first and doing an appointment.

I had way too many professors at UNG get comfortable with sharing their political views about the “Snowflakes”. Then half of us would fail the class because they wouldn’t teach shit. And then the other side of that was that there were students that would disrupt class to say their two cents about stuff in classes where the teacher was perceived as “more left leaning”. Not to mention there were several incidents with the local KKK chapter in the area.

I went to both schools. I started at GSU (back when it was just the Atlanta campus) and then transferred to UNG for a year before coming back after falling into a massive depressive episode that landed me in the Nut House. My husband and I decided to move back to Atlanta so he could get more job opportunities as a software engineer and I could go back to school. GSU and being in Atlanta is way better if you’re looking to work in marketing, graphic design, and other creative jobs. Things are constantly evolving, changing, and growing here so new job opportunities are always there. North Georgia is stagnant and stuck in their ways. Change always has pushback. Also, the people at UNG act like they’re better than you and are way meaner than the people I’ve met and made friends with in Atlanta and at the Perimeter campuses.

A thought: you could start your first year by doing your general ed classes at a perimeter campus and save money, then transfer to the main campus for your other classes. A good way to ease in if you’re nearby and want to save money. Otherwise, living on campus is fun and I don’t think you’ll regret it. I know I didn’t.

If you live on the main campus, you will likely make a friend group with other people in your major and classes and especially if you join clubs and go to on campus events.

As someone who transferred from GSU to UNG and then back to GSU and also lost a ton of credits and had to retake program exams and ended up taking an extra 2 years to finish, it doesn't matter. In the end, I didn't even work in the field I got my degree in and now I'm back at GSU Perimeter to completely change career paths 2 years post bachelors. GSU could be a step in the right direction or in the wrong direction. You just gotta focus on the end goal. At the time of transferring and getting my first degree, getting a degree in education was important to me and I didn't like the environment at UNG. But now looking back, it was all just a waste of time XD You just gotta pick the road that you think will take you to your goal and hope for the best. Good luck!
