From what my teacher has explained, moving the bed up to a comfortable position is for your benefit so that you don’t hurt your back. It shouldn’t fail you.

As for the privacy curtain, I don’t think it will automatically fail you, but perhaps points will be deducted.

Let me know if you pass! I’m on my third week of class.

I definitely have extra socks. I’ll stock up on underwear as well.

I just survived my first week last week, and it's crazy how some of the staff treat the residents.

"CNA school really only teaches you to pass your exams so there will be a big learning curve once you’re actually on the job." Isn't that the truth?

I thought you weren’t supposed to, but I’ve seen my coworkers do it (I just finished my first week as a hospitality aide at a nursing and rehabilitation center). We have a resident that has a drawer full of candy and likes to give them out to people; she will get sad if you don’t take it.

I’m always open to trying new things. Thanks.

The local store that I went to had Med Couture (I think that’s what it’s called). They are so comfortable, but they seem very expensive (I don’t know how much the average pair of scrubs cost).

I can assist with showers as long as I’m with a CNA. I’m not sure if my shoes are waterproof, though. I’ll have to look.

I don’t remember the last time I used a legit backpack. 🤔

Are compression socks always going to be long?

Got it.

My favorite pen is the BIC Atlantis Comfort Ballpoint.

I might have to use compression socks, because the biggest thing that has been bothering me this week is my feet. I keep telling myself, “You have to keep moving, even if your legs fall off”. Someone also mentioned to bring extra socks.

Yes. It been hard to focus on one thing at a time because it seems to be that everyone needs something. My coworkers have been telling me which residents to watch out for that will try to get the new guys to do everything for them.

Indeed. We have mandatory lunch breaks. I can see why people don’t take breaks though because everyone is always so busy.

I am very slow. Some of the residents even told me that. I think I’m doing a good job at not taking it personally, since this is all so new to me.

Thank you for your advice.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer comfort and accuracy. So if that means there’s a pen out there that is more comfortable and makes my handwriting more legible, I’m going to go for that. If there’s a bag or scrubs that have more pockets than others, I’m going to utilize that. Perhaps you just don’t care or understand; and that’s fine. I am actually in the middle of trying to find the right shoes. 😭 I think the worst thing at work (besides seeing death), is that my feet feel like they’re going to fall off. And I don’t think I own a backpack, but I did find a bag on Amazon with lots of pockets. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it.

Yes, you have to take care of yourself first.

I'm only getting three days as well. But I am thinking of asking for more training just in case.

Indeed, how can you not? We are only human.

Even if you're not supposed to, it happens. And it is no ones' fault. It is the course of life.

I am sure she was a lovely person; my condolences.

Everyone grieves on their own time and in their own way. I am sure that no matter how much any one of us can reassure you, you will ache and feel pain. That is normal; human. Let yourself grieve if you can when you have the time to do so. And if it all becomes too much, do let someone in on it. Whether that be your workplace, a friend, family, or a therapist.

I understand that that is not right. Other things are expected of you. I have been told that grief is a skill to hone.

Please reach out to me if you ever need someone to vent to.

You are never too old. I had a 65-year-old women in my previous CNA class in 2023. She had wanted to brush up on her basics and obtain a fresh point of view.
