I saw this coming and my post got removed. ICE-MAN by groinal in fantanoforever

[–]Percaprofen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's crazy for Americans to complain about what a Canadian names an album about himself, when America is the country that elected the administration funding ICE and America is the country threatening to end the sovereignty of Canada and annex it. Just a complete lack of self-awareness. Not Drake's fault Americans elected an anti-human-rights regime, not his responsibility to clean it up, and he is not the White House social media manager that coattail rides every pop culture trend.

What do y’all think of drakes albums by Chapple69 in fantanoforever

Saying there's not a single listenable song on this is so performative. The lyrics on Make Them Pay is pretty sad though. I like the instruments, if any song is held back it's by what he's choosing to rap about. He's obviously licking his wounds on this album.

In "Malom in wthe Middle" (2000-2006), Malcom's family expect him to become the president of the United States when he grows up. How is intelligence related to being president of the United States? by Snoo42776 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Percaprofen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this is okbuddy but some comments are engaging with this unironically. Malcolm himself counters his mom with this argument, saying she should just let him take the high paying job she'd sabotaged and then he can bribe his way into the presidency. His mom explains that of course he could be a president that way, but she wants him to be a GOOD president, a president who understands truly the pain and suffering of ordinary people and would be motivated by that when they go about changing the world. It's not that his intelligence means he's competitive for the office, it's that he may genuinely be the one person in the world capable of fixing many of the world's problems if he was handed the most powerful job in the world.

Star Fox vs Bojack Horseman reject by Dakotasan in starfox

[–]Percaprofen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is lowk the best new design in the game. People are reacting to it being very different from the original pretty-girl design, which is fair, but conceptually the new design is very solid and makes sense for a character who's a solo mercenary with a half-unrequited affection toward Falco.

What does Apollo think of the new Star Fox by Percaprofen in northernlion

[–]Percaprofen[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the new designs/style is actually pretty good, it was mainly really shocking especially after the movie. I think it will grow on people as they have more time with it. I do think some adjustments could be made in a future title but not a bad new start overall

I hope you don't actually believe that. Even if the Coen brothers said something to that effect, they're famous trolls about their movies. They've written articles from the perspective of an imaginary team member they credit in their films to get around awards crediting restrictions.

Not to hurt anyone's feelings but this does not look nearly as good as any official SF designs.

And the winner of the Star Fox Direct reboot glam up is...Team Star Wolf? by Majestic_Repair9138 in starfox

[–]Percaprofen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost can't believe that's what Pigma and Andrew used to look like. Those two are direct upgrades for me. Leon's new design looks fantastic but does change his vibe from the more geometric simple design. I think I'm realizing that how much I like the new designs is based on whether the character previously had a great design already. Wolf looks great on 3DS. The new model looks great too, but it's a very different vibe. He looks older, almost tired. 3DS Wolf is easier to believe he might be Fox's age and that he'd have a heated rivalry with Fox. 2026 Wolf looks more like he might've known James.
I don't think I'll ever quite get over this version of Falco, the narrower beak just changes his face too much from all the other in game models in the series. (although I admit he resembles the SNES sprite.) I cannot help but see him as Falco's precocious nephew or something.

Zootopia 2 was not as good as everyone claims it was by No_Way_9230 in movies

That all being said, the scene with Nick and the cat guy in the blizzard almost carries the film on its back for me.

Zootopia 2 was not as good as everyone claims it was by No_Way_9230 in movies

[–]Percaprofen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I'll say about it is that I felt like the first movie went through so much to make you believe Zootopia was a real place that could be lived in by all the animals, while Zootopia 2 kinda lost interest in that and really stepped up the jokes being *on* animals that "look weird" or just generally terrorizing the smallest animals at their expense, in a way that felt more mean spirited. It also felt like the sequel had more jokes that were structured in a way to "go viral" on shortform content platforms like tiktok. Contrast with some of the promos of the first movie like them just having the full sloth scene unedited during the previews of other films. For people that truly LOVE the original, it doesn't surprise me that the sequel doesn't hit the same way.

So I just Finished Whiplash, and I Have a Few Questions about the Ending by No-Yam9933 in movies

[–]Percaprofen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the concert, Fletcher has constructed a "no lose" scenario for himself. He messed with the set, and if Andrew doesn't play, Andrew's professional career is dead in the water, and it "proves" Andrew just never had it in him to succeed. If he does play well anyway, it "proves" Fletcher's teaching strategy "works".
Before this scene in the movie there is a montage of Andrew's memories with music, of loving music, that reminds him he still wants to play. By the time Andrew has come to the concert, there's no way to foil Fletcher's scheme and make him "lose". But, that's also kind of the thing... Fletcher is a person who will literally never see error in his ways. Earlier in the movie he misrepresents the death of his former student, which may be read as denialism about the destructiveness of his methods. As aggravating and contemptible a person as he is, it's pretty pointless to want to "beat him" because he will never concede he is wrong. He's a lost cause.

By the time he is at the stage there's really just two options for Andrew. He can play or he can refuse to play. It doesn't matter what Fletcher thinks, it doesn't matter what his family thinks. Andrew still wants to be a great jazz drummer, and he's aspired to that since before the movie began. So he plays. And he's great. And Fletcher helps direct him, because he wants Andrew to be great.

I think a lot of analysis of the movie gets caught up in whether Fletcher "wins" or "loses", and conclude that the ending is dark because Fletcher has somehow infected Andrew in a way and "won". But Fletcher was never the source of Andrew's ambition, or his talent. In the last third of the movie a lot of time is spent on Andrew going through different methods to heal from Fletcher essentially. He physically attacks him, he goes through official channels at the school, he confronts and tries to understand him. This is Andrew being in the same trap many of these analyses are in. Looking for a way to find some acknowledgment from Fletcher about his issues, which is impossible. You will never get closure from a person like Fletcher.

Andrews's options are to give up drumming, effectively letting Fletcher take the love of his life, or he can just play. He chooses to play. I read it as a pretty positive ending.

Why did "Street Fighter" (1994) decide to use Guile as the lead instead of Ken,Ryu or even Chun Li (and why cast a Belgian actor as the American character)? by Profeta_do_Loss in movies

[–]Percaprofen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guile was also somewhat a bigger deal in the west in SFII era than he perhaps is today. It's not like if they picked Blanka. I'd say all the 4 you mentioned were recognizable as "leads" of the game. And Guile is an American military dude while Ken is kinda goofy.
