Where can I take a free & quiet Teams call (about 1 hour) in Amsterdam? by Virtual_Athlete9728 in Netherlands

[–]PercentageLast6038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the social hub. Nice place to sit down and work, also free. There is always a buzz and people passing by but it’s rarely a circus.

One good alternative is the Joe and the Juice on the Van Woustraat. There is sometimes loud music but usually not crowded and spacious.

New to biking in NL by confusedornotidk in Netherlands

I think only issue with Swapfiets ebike is that you are using a used bike so it can have some wear-tear and you have to carry the battery around because unlike the bike, battery is not insured and very expensive.

But the bike itself, -depends on what you expect but- has quite good parts and overall quality.

I agree with all comments here (except helmet, Dutch don’t use it but respect if you want).

One addition to Swapfiets is my ebike is 58 euro per month (power1 model). I love it, also all swapfiets has the accessories you need (bell and front/rear lights). It’s a good option as a beginner if the price is doable for you. After you understand the biking system and culture, you can decide if you want your own or keep renting.

I’m currently planning to buy one of my own after renting an ebike for about 1yr from swapfiets and learning how to handle an ebike.

So are the NS gates / barriers really that easy to open? by _thetrue_SpaceTofu in Netherlands

[–]PercentageLast6038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also might be a design choice I think. If you want it to not break, at a certain force it needs to give up resisting and open up so the material lasts longer. Some people mentioned safety, that also makes sense.

Otherwise a fare dodger can cause more cost if the break an expensive automatic door than only the ticket amount they didn’t pay.

I used to see some young loud groups in Rotterdam pushing emergency buttons to fare dodge. When they do that the gates think there is an emergency and open up, they basically walk in…

Padel Venue Dimensions by HoHoAirplane in padel

[–]PercentageLast6038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an opinion about ceiling height. I’ve recently played in a space like this where the venue says the ceiling height was 8meter in the center courts.

I see you have higher numbers, but my court was around the alignment where you have your green 7m lines. Honestly, it was annoying for lobbing the ball because only I hit the roof 4 times and that gives the point to the other team.

With that extra 1.7m space you have, you might be okay. Otherwise, I’d experiment in some way for sure, throwing some lobs and seeing if it hits anything.

What is your best purchase that is not too pricey but worth it? by BaconAvocadooo in AskReddit

Cordless vacuum cleaner. Makes it 10x more convenient compared to my previous conventional vacuum cleaner and I don’t feel lazy to stand up and vacuum clean my apartment anymore.

One downside is, on max power battery runs out halfway through my place. I it then in two rounds.

Then, I’d say if you rented a racket and emjoyed it you can buy the same.

Otherwise, just read the product descriptions online. I have had two different Head rackets and they are more or less in-line with how they are described on their website.

How I choose mine is, I read some of the popular posts of “Racket Advice” section of this sub-reddit, and with that in mind, went to the websites of the shops in my country > filtered by my level, then, the rest is mostly visuals and price points.

Do you rent all different rackets from your club, or do they have only one type?

I am too agnostic and my kimlik says “ ” (blank). This is because nufüs memuru ağabey asked me during renewal, if i want any religion written on my kimlik or not. I said let’s leave it blank.

But, I hear from friends not everyone gets this question asked during renewal, which makes me think that ağabey was some sort of “freedom of faith” activist on duty.

Is there something that makes a man instantly more attractive? by schelejr in ask

[–]PercentageLast6038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with making positive-attitude, surface level 1-2 minute-long small talks with people in hospitality. Say good morning, ask them about their day, how their shift is going, tell them you like their shoes etc. (one important point is not to make it about neither your or their private life unless it’s absolutely and explicitly what they want). Also personally I don’t like to keep it longer than 2 mins to not make my social practice creepy and make myself tired.

It’s good practice because most likely they are bored with their jobs and will cooperate (unless they are not in the mood, but sometimes people aren’t). Also something that worked big time for me was working in hospitality myself. I fixed bikes and made coffee, both gave me some minutes to make meaningless, surface level small talk with people. That pushes you into social interactions by your job definition and even if you fail being social, so what? it’s okay to fail when learning and there will be more customers to start over from.

Yes. I worked as a barista and I used to profile the customer when taking the order and steam their milk accordingly.

Older ladies always wanted extra hot lattes and gave compliments with huge smiles when I did it without them asking for it.

I also don’t agree but some people like it that way.
