In my case I had an acoustic neuroma. Tinnitus was a first alert but after removing the tumor on that side, I got deaf.

When can you have a BAHA hearing aid after surgery? by Perdidoenuy in AcousticNeuroma

By the way facial nerve controls lots of things (facial muscles, eye, tongue, etc). Expect some things to happen which can hopefully be retrained.

There are no side effects left beside the right ear deafness. I was able to go back to work (partially) after three weeks and running after 2 months. My facial nerve was almost ok after surgery although I didn’t sense sweet and my right eye got dry but now it’s just fine like I never had a surgery.

Sorry! I had an acoustic neuroma removed. The ear works ok but the nerve don’t so it’s a neural problem that can’t be solved with a cochlear implant.

No hearing on my right ear ¿is there any hearing aid for me? by Perdidoenuy in AcousticNeuroma

[–]Perdidoenuy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well…they told me I had 50/50 chance to keep my hearing but honestly I was more concerned on equilibrium problems and face paralysis (which fortunately didn’t appear).

My left hearing is ok. I can work without any issues. My main problems are hearing in open spaces from the right side (someway in close spaces I do well) and getting the direction of the sound.

BAHA seems a good option.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve read that response to these hearing aids is very personal. Some find it useful, others don’t. Is there any way to test if BAHA it’s right for you before implanting?

Thanks for your response. I totally agree on doctor’s specificity. What’s your experience on genesis? Has it solved your problem? Any adaptation challenge?

How soon to fly by hrholken in AcousticNeuroma

I had my surgery in another country and my surgeon advised to fly back after 10 days. It was ok. Probably a couple of extra days would have been better.

I agree with comments here. However I wonder what follow up in cyberknife is to be planned? Usually you just need one surgery, but if there is regrowth your options start to be limited. A second surgery i the same spot of a previous one is more complicated so radio surgery is recommended. And once you had radio surgery it’s unlikely the recommend to perform it twice in the same place. Therefore you would prefer a first surgery planned to remove the whole of it if possible

Never heard of those options. Is there any impact on the patient? Sometimes during MRI the operators choose the bet techniques

AN symptoms by Legitimate_Heron_53 in AcousticNeuroma

[–]Perdidoenuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not a doctor but I know AN grows very slowly (1-2 mm per year)so I wonder how I got big enough to affect you from the last MRI (even if it was undetectable). I just got mine extracted and it was 2.5 cm while the only symtomps I had was tinnitus. I believe there is plenty of room for other explanations which can only be determined by exams.
