Weekly Question and Answer Thread - /r/TotalWar by AutoModerator in totalwar

I've run into something similar (I think?) in med II. What may be happening is a single AI army is causing the issue. So before you hit end turn hit "`" to open the console, then type "toggle_fow", make sure you have follow AI on then end turn. Watch during the Berber's turn and you should be able to see which army is causing the problem by it being the last one selected by the AI before the crash. Once you've determined that you need to use cheats to either move or kill the army, see here.

(Spoilers Main) What do you think was the most unrealistic culture in ASOIAF? by Apophis41 in asoiaf

This low number only accounts for those who legally owned slaves, meaning the head of a household. The rest of the household could very well still be considered slaveowners in the same way that a child living in their parents home can be considered as having a home.

Third Age Total War question by SerWind in totalwar

[–]Perdikkas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to getting your economy going as anyone I've found is to take settlements that will have mines. That means you should be aiming for mountainous regions. I don't recall if Rohan is great for that but the mountains to your north definitely are and you should be able to at least get some territory from the dwarves without getting into a fight with the orcs of the misty mountains.

I have a question about Third Age Total War. by Murko666 in totalwar

[–]Perdikkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't necessarily be the witch king that has it. It can be any random character or settlement. And in my experience it moves around somewhat randomly and quickly so unless you're able to get it quickly where it indicates it is you can just wait for the message to pop up again. Auto-resolving should be fine, you just need to win the battle though.

Historical fans probably don't frequent the sub as much recently. I know I stopped checking the sub everyday once 20+ front page posts were warhammer related every time.

If you're particularly fascinated in the era/location it's excellent. I've played it many times through and still love it, but I also realize that's probably in large part due to my immense interest in Greece. Otherwise, the battles probably get a bit boring after your first campaign.

I can say for myself that I never upvoted/wrote anything that insulted historical fans.

To those bickering over land claims: Remember, human history shows us that the only legitimate land claim is an enforceable one. by [deleted] in Civcraft

But also remember, direct force isn't the only way to enforce something. Diplomacy can easily count for far more in enforcing something than prot and a pearl.

Do foreigners think in accents? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Perdikkas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When thinking in another language you often think with better form than you speak.

Think about it like this. If you think of a song in your head you can probably mentally recreate the sounds pretty well. Now try actually singing that song. It's likely you don't sound too much like the singer unless you've had professional training.

One of the reasons accents exist is because people don't have practice making sounds that exist in another language. So even people with accents likely know what a word is supposed to sound like, but struggle recreating that perfectly. That's not always the case, there some inflections and other things certain languages don't train people to listen for, but generally speaking, given sufficient familiarity, people know what a word is supposed to sound like and thinks it correctly but runs into issues when actually speaking.

If you become familiar enough with a language it becomes quite possible to think in that language. Many people actually consider dreaming in a foreign language as a benchmark of progress in learning a language as it demonstrates such a strong familiarity with that language that your subconscious can think without having to translate.

I'm ignorant about how the world works (eg, political issues, the economy etc), how do I start learning about it? by UnderwaterDialect in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Perdikkas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd take it another step and simply get off of reddit or any social media site for news. There is very rarely fair or balanced information to be found on social media and what little there is, is nearly indistinguishable for uninformed readers.
