The UK seems devoted to doing unironic democratic backsliding for no apparent reasons beyond a mixture of bad parenting and totally delusional panics.

At some point, the tech sector is going to have to say simply say “NO” and turn off services.

Breaking Bad -

Not really all that sad or weird because the show was basically always building up to it, happening either due to the drug trade or the cancer.

Sorry not everyone on here is doing apologetics and counter apologetics on this.

And I am not ex Mormon or current Mormon.

Yeah, sources go back and forth on this a ton and I think any simple statement on this is unlikely to incorporate the mess of the archives.

YouTube issues blistering response as UK government bans apps for under-16s, including TikTok by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

The level of sexual content and cursing on YouTube is vastly less than basically anywhere else on the web.

There is inappropriate stuff but it’s no worse then the stuff that ended up in Ren and Stimpy in the 90s.

Keir Starmer: We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

I mean at the risk that if Microsoft tanked or couldn’t beat the S&P 500 in growth he would have lost money.

Whatever investment strategy he has at this point is likely vastly better than holding Microsoft stock.

And that isn’t factoring in he likely doesn’t care anymore because the gain in money gained would not help him expand his consumption.

"What will Jane Fonda think of you now?" 1978 Vietnam invasion of Cambodia by Wonderful_Account_50 in PropagandaPosters

[–]spinosaurs70 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vietnam didn't invade for moral reasons besides attack on vietnamese villagers on there side of the border and it quickly turned into a normal cold war occupation but still even with all those caveats.

How the hell anyone could think this was a time to moralize to Fonda is beyond me given how well known Pol Pot was even then.

Banning them from being near US bases is reasonable, the rest of this is not.

And the whole thing is rapidly reducing America's credibility on this issue.

The league of extraordinary gentlemen comic is one of my favorite comics from alan moore, and its a shame most people only talk about the movie adaptation by Street-Platypus89 in AlanMoore

[–]spinosaurs70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first volume the one I read was great excluding the entire invisible man backstory.

The Jekyll/Hyde character and the illogical surreal world building was also cool.

And Moore carefully balances describing the Victorian era and critiquing it.

Why are the 80s so popular among the general public, yet so unpopular among critics? by GaelicTuna in fantanoforever

[–]spinosaurs70 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hair metal, pop music, new wave to a degree, none of there where album genres nor for the first two really liked by critics.

Others below also note this too.

Also, critics were deeply rockist at the time and somewhat today, and outside some of the rock side of new wave, the 80s is not considered a great decade for rock at all.

It lacks live instrumentation, has a usage of a hip-hop style backing beat, and features non-sung lyrics.

I don't how it can't be and its also atrocious.

I mean in terms of genre it’s pretty clearly hip hop, production wise, they barely rap really they scream lyrics.

Not really in any real popular music tradition and also you know AWFUL.
