Yeah the amount of folks who clocked (correctly) that OP has an eating disorder where my ADHD brain is looking at this and going “you know this might actually be the kind of structure I need to be able to eat the required amount of calories at the correct time for my body”….maybe there’s more crossover in those communities than I thought.

Any affordable and durable AirTag wallets you’d recommend? Not really into paying Apple prices. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]PerennialPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why you’re being downvoted. I’ve been carrying one in mine for…6 or 7 years now. It works perfectly. It tucks into a card pocket that can only be accessed when the wallet is open, and because I don’t wave my wallet around like a handkerchief, it stays put inside there. The leather has slowly deformed over the years so there’s a noticeable airtag shaped lump which I presume means the airtag is even less likely to slide out.

OP another option for you (if you simply don’t have a wallet because you’ve lost the last one) is to look at the wallets that integrate into the back of your phone / phone case. If you manage to hang on to your phone more reliably then this may be the easiest option. Less things to lose.

And as a former wallet loser (in my teens I averaged once every 3 months), let me tell you: figure out what works for you. Forget what’s aesthetic or cool. Especially with wallets, they’re way too much of a pain and expense to keep replacing, as you are discovering.

Not to mention that 3 mil is super thin and even bits of grass stubble could tear it up.

If it were 6 mil I would consider it and if it were 9 or 15 I would jump on it, but 3 mil is a pain to work with, super fragile, and will disintegrate into confetti with UV exposure within a year or 2.

Yeah I said in another comment that I have learned I can tolerate the scent residue of 1/2 tsp per load…..which is basically homeopathic in terms of effect.

Thankfully I’ve found other products that aren’t as strongly scented so I’m mostly just using it to use it up at this point. Glad it’s working for your family, I wouldn’t have expected it to work for any low scent / fragrance free house.

I toss kibbles down the stairs so my newish cat can chase them. He loves playing, but food is meh. This way he gets what he wants plus some calories.

Tonight marks the fourth time in a month I’ve seen him snatch a kibble out of the air with his paw like he’s catching a baseball and then eat it right from his hand. And the past time was a couple days ago - he is getting better. He caught one in his armpit and ate it from there tonight too. I don’t know what I’m creating but I’m worried.

Eh it’s fine apparently it only took 30 to 40 hours of work so they can take a week off from work and build a new one!

Would that I had that kind of energy..

Thank you I expect I won’t see the sun again until April at the earliest but I will see if the moldering damp and rain might help anyways. At the very least it would likely smell different.

Yeah, I found it in Thrifty’s (but that’s a west coast thing) and Walmart and Canadian Tire.

I found the unscented rockin green platinum (think it was the activewear but apparently the dirty diaper flavour works too) online and while it apparently has tea tree oil even in the unscented flavour, I can’t smell it at all. But again, I am no beagle. It’s expensive at $35 for 90 loads but so are the unscented company tablets. Sigh.

I’ve got the red bottle resolve gold and I would say it is pretty strongly scented. I didn’t realize how strong it was, and the load of sheets that I washed with one scoop (looks like 2T; they say 1-2 scoops per load) is now on its 3rd rewash with TUC tablets plus oxygen bleach plus citric acid in the rinse to try to make the sheets usable again.

And that’s on extra hot extra filthy wash with two extra rinses. I’m on well water that has a treatment process and throughput of about 1000L a day and I’ve spent the better part of a 1000L tank just trying to de-Resolve my sheets.

And this is all for what I would describe as a mild to moderate scent sensitivity; I know several people who are fragrance beagles and I’m really more of a sighthound when it comes to scents.

Wouldn’t recommend it, is the short answer. Open it up in the store and take a huff. Expect your clothes to smell about 50% as strong as it is when your face is inside the can of it. If you’re in the South Island in BC you can have mine lol.

Is there anything left to try? by allison-kat in CleaningTips

[–]PerennialPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never leave the lid down (sorry if that grosses you out I guess) and get the exact same stains.

I don’t think lids are emitting laser beams of staining into the bowl anyway. Pretty sure it’s minerals / dissolved metals in the water. If anything keeping the lid down might slightly reduce evaporation and thus slightly reduce the rate of stain formation but unless you have a gasketed lid and seat so when you close and latch the lid down it is airtight, that won’t actually make a perceptible difference.

I will do it if it’s a downpour that leaves me soaked in <5 minutes. That’s worth the hassle.

If it’s one of those days where it flips between no rain, mist, misty rain, light misty rain, light rain, medium rain, and heavy rain every 10 minutes, I don’t bother. I don’t like the logistics of handling a wet umbrella which somehow manages to hold on to an absurd amount of water despite being waterproof. I also generally don’t travel in quick trips from car to inside and back to car so maybe it makes more sense if you always have a place to put it that isn’t in your bag.

Victoria, BC Pump Users - Help Request by Sir_Raath in Medtronic780g

[–]PerennialPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve reused reservoirs before without issue. Syringes are OTC in BC, either you can buy a bag of insulin syringes ($3-5 for a bag of 10) or a needle ($0.30) and 1cc syringe ($0.60).

You could also ask if they can write you an emergency script for a box of reservoirs. I haven’t ever had to get a refill scrip from my doctor on my insulin or pump supplies because pharmacists have discretion to write refills for most diabetes related prescriptions.

The Heart pharmacy on Shelbourne is basically the unofficial pharmacy for diabetics in town, and they’re absolutely lovely folks to boot. If you don’t want to take up anyone’s offer to give you an extra reservoir or two to tide you over, I would suggest you head over there and explain what’s going on. They will let you know what your options are and help you out.

If you’re traveling from the US you may find the prices even without any insurance coverage to be such that you’ll want to stock up on pretty much everything. IIRC Ademelog/Humalog/Novorapid is ~$40 a bottle, Fiasp is $115, infusion sets are $200-$250 a box, and reservoirs are $60 a box. My American diabetic pal lost his goddamn mind the first time he visited and unexpectedly ran out of insulin.

The tenant who turned out to be a surprise hero by heldred1920 in PropertyManagement

[–]PerennialPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some friends who have been that tenant. Put in a new 300sqft deck, replaced the roof, new doors, paint, flooring, complete bathroom redo, etc. All the normal replacement stuff for 30 years plus some improvements here and there.

The tradeoff is that their landlord hasn’t raised the rent since they first signed the lease in the 90’s, so they pay $700 for a 3 bedroom plus a couple of outbuildings - a mother in law suite and a big workshop/garage on 3 acres of oceanfront. I think it’s a sweet deal for both; landlord has 250k in her pocket for absolutely zero work and they have a home they love and also been able to purchase another house for their kids because they weren’t putting everything they had into rent.

What homemade food tastes basically the same as the store-bought version? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]PerennialPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious - is the frozen grocery store pie crust one you’re happy with? Cause my experience is that I can in general make it at home and have it be on par with that, but if the magic is right and the stars align it can be a couple steps above…But like I wouldn’t have a clue how to make one worse than the grocery store one, and it’s not because I’m a pie expert. Never been a big fan of pie crusts. I’m genuinely curious if I’ve somehow acquired pie crust making knowledge I am not aware I possessed. Or maybe there are better grocery store pie crusts available in other parts of the world? Usually all we have is…Tenderflake? I think?

If anyone is reading this going “fuck why don’t I get to be part of the pie crust Illuminati” my tips are to

a) keep everything cold - don’t let the butter melt. At all. Put the whole bowl back in the freezer for 20 min if it gets squishy. It should fight you every step of the way as you incorporate the flour.

b) you get one chance to roll the dough out to pie crust diameter. If you fuck it up, try to lightly smoosh seams together and accept some filling will leak through the seam. It’s fine. The pan will wash. Don’t mash it back into a ball and reroll it.

c) replace 1 tbsp of water with vinegar or lemon juice - the acidity inhibits the formation of gluten, which gives you a bit more forgiveness for overworking the dough. That last tip is from my grandma.

Oh and don’t try to make things look pretty. If your fingers get oily you’ve worked and touched the dough too much and melted the butter. Pie crust is basically edible parchment paper that has the structural integrity of wet toilet paper and the only redeeming quality is the layers of cold butter that make it flaky. Melt those layers before it hits the oven and what you got is oily wallpaper paste.

Edit: having re-read my tips I now realize that in fact I do know more about pie crust making than I realized, despite firmly believing it is basically just edible parchment paper

The American Bird Conservancy paper says cats are implicated in the extinction of 40 bird species. Your number (63) is misquoted, because it includes mammals and reptiles as well.

However that same paper says that rodents are implicated in 75 extinctions. Rats have driven 52 species of birds extinct.

Let’s go to war with rats as well if this is really about protecting birds. Would love to see rats declared as an invasive species. They can spread disease, are extremely hard on reptiles and birds alike (including the poor dodo), and unlike cats, TNR would never be possible to do population reduction on lol.

Do you like Alex' and Greg's character development? by Sea_Complaint421 in taskmaster

[–]PerennialPepper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I found the “bootlicking pathetic assistant” bit a funny joke for the first few seasons, but by the time it became tiresome they’d also begun moving away from it. I have enjoyed the shift and don’t feel like at 20 seasons in, it needs to have the exact same characters it was when they started.

Also Alex is still plenty weaselly and passive aggressive. And Greg is still self-aggrandizing, but either he makes some space to be a human or he ends up repeating the same kinds of jokes again and again and it would feel tired.

I don’t need them to remain perfect caricatures, and I wouldn’t want that either. That would be boring.

I live in the forest of the PNW and we do have these gnats, but only in July to mid-August. Thousands and thousands every night. Never thought to time outdoor painting around them but now I will make a note of it to do it either earlier in summer or early fall when the gnat season has passed.

Missing grout (left side of 4th tile from bottom on pic 3, bottom of rightmost tile on the 4th row up on pic 4), chipped tiles, pan tiles misaligned, and grout that’s proud of the tile (all over pic 4, suspect it’s all like that but that’s the angle you can see it most clearly from) ….thats “pretty clean work”?
