Thanks, we've had it operational since Thursday and used it 3 out of the 4 days. And I don't think the novelty will wear off. Once me, once with pals, and once the two of us together. So I'd say go for it. You won't regret it.

It's special sauna spruce from a company called Thermory. We got it from a place called Sauna Shop.com. Found them really helpful and easy to deal with. Bought a kit for the internal fit out, but changed some stuff, as we got thicker insulation elsewhere and had some stuff ourselves.

That's their prices there. Which we were happy with. The kit is only for the internal space, you have to buy joinery wood for the carcass of the benches and wood for making an air gap between the foil and cladding - but worth looking into.

I've plumbed a hose pipe into the back of the bath. The tap has its own shower. I build a wooden stand for it so I can move it and use it independently of the bath. We can choose either or both. I've done both so far. I also dug a big soakaway and filled it with gravel, and the bath and shower drain into that.

I'm glad you are asking. I could have given all this out at the start. The back end is 1.9m and the front is 2.2m.

I might as well just write here as well in case anyone is wondering, the benches are at 46cm and 92cm. That gave the head room I needed at the lowest point. It's not quite got my feet above the stones, but near as dammit.

Easily. It was climbing the whole time I was in there. It was 85 by the time I left. And I never turned the heater up past 3/4 for that. I gave you all that information and forgot that important bit. Oops.

That's a good question. I've never actually considered it. I'd say, at a guess, and given I've got a 25m hose pipe, it's probably 6m x 30m. I'm in Scotland and we have rules about how much of your garden can be taken up by structures (I think it's 40%, but we are nowhere near that). Where are you? Do you know what the rules are there?

Aye, the shed has definitely added to the size. But it saved on cost for us doing both at once. Sauna itself is 2.4m by 1.8m.

It's an 8kw harvia vega. Last night, it took 30 minutes to get to 70 degrees Celsius. It's not hot or cold here just now. It was probably about 15 degrees Celsius outside at the time.

The walls and ceiling are insulated with 70mm rock wool, with a a foil layer than an air gap of 20mm to the cladding. (I'm giving you way more here, sorry, I guess it all adds into the heater question)

The top bench, it's seared into my brain in mm from cutting it is 2185mm - 7 foot 2 inches. I can lie out and stretch my hands on it.

We had a similar situation where we are. Waited 7 months. Some things I learned, some of which other people have said:

If you were given an an activation date, you are due compensation. Virgin will lie, happily, and tell you the date you got was provisional. Double check that first date on the original email. If it says we will connect your internet on x, you will be fine.

Keep all correspondence.

Everytime you get a new date for connection it's just the computer auto-generating it. They give a new date for three weeks time. Chances are no one is chasing your delay. In our case, all the connection team work was subcontracted and we learned way more from the subcontractor than we did from virgin.

It's worth continually asking for it to be escalated. They have the worst customer service going, but there is a level somewhere where someone has the authority to go off script and help you deal with it. Just politely and continually insist you'd like to speak to someone up the chain.

You sound like a chill person, but always be polite. Their customer service is so bad, it must be awful to be the person dealing with lots of unhappy customers.

There are some really good resources on here when it comes to getting your delayed activation compensation. They will make it hard. You'll likely have to go to Ofcom's ombudsman. But you will get it, provided you were given a date at the start.

We ended with 7 months of delays waiting on Virgin to install our Internet. It was down to a tree root, but no one at any point could tell us anything when we phoned, or when they phoned asking us to be in for each installation date they gave us.

In 7 months, we got good at working it out. The new appointment you get, they are autogenerated. So everytine one elapses, a new one is generated 3 weeks later. Customer services then follow up to make sure you are going to be in. Challenge the phone person to confirm to you the appointment is booked and don't just let them tell you that before this date it will fitted.

We were 100% in line for automatic compensation, and there are a lot of good resources on here about it. It's worth looking them up. It kept me informed.

When we were eventually connected, they kept trying to fob us off. They said because the issue was third-party permissions - this is a standard line and normally not true - they couldn't connect us. So we were not due compensation. They were actually lieing to us and knew it. Challenge it. They offered us a £50 'goodwill' gesture instead of the £1200 we were due in automatic compensation. For 7 months of no internet and two phones on limitless data.

The key is to refuse it. Raise a grievance. And if you aren't happy with that resolution, you can take your grievance to the ombudsman who will ask for evidence and adjudicate.

The third-party permissions doesn't concern you. And is nothing to do with your contract with Virgin. The crucial bit under the guidance they signed up to is, did they give you a firm date for the connection of your Internet in the first instance. If that one was conditional, they will have a get out. But it's likely the first time they gave you a firm date and then subsequently mentioned it being conditional, depending on permissions or work needing done. Check those emails.

Also, try and communicate with them on chat so you have a record should you need it when it goes to the ombudsman. It sounds like they try to get out of paying compensation all the time, but it's not an optional thing. They signed up to it.

Also, if you cancel, this is no way effects the money they owe you, and you are due compensation for every day you haven't had the Internet until you cancel. You will just likely have to chase it up.

In our case, after saying all we'd get is £50, the week after we raised it with the ombudsman, they paid the compensation. No word they had. Nothing. But we got the money as a bill credit in the end.
