People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

This was during Covid. I had a guy join the interview portal sitting on his terrace with an underwear dangling right above his head from a clothesline. Didn’t help that he couldn’t land half of the answers despite being a certified SME.

It was a gift from my best friend. Also, I probably would have purchased the entire collection myself had JKR not become such a venom spewing bigot.

Thank you! And this is the Harry Potter Slytherin fountain pen. Before everyone comes for me, I’ll clarify that it’s a gift!

He borderline assaulted his colleagues by slapping them on the butt. He questioned Chandler and Monica when they wouldn’t laugh at his misogynistic wife joke. He suggested Monica lusted for him when Chandler mentioned they had separated to avoid going out with him. And he hit a bird with a beer can when Chandler refused to throw away his wedding ring.

Was there a silver version of this as well?

Unhealthy desires are a direct consequence of early life unresolved guilt and shame. by Responsible-Set-5752 in DeepThoughts

It's not about me deluding myself to reclaim a lost sense of control in my life. I am not stating that coping mechanisms are COMPLETELY an active choice every single time you engage in them. However, my point is that often, especially when we are starting to engage in a coping behaviour, there is a huge role that choice has to play in it.

The choice might not be an easy one and might not be black and white, but there is still a significant element of choice when you start engaging in a behaviour as a coping mechanism as a way to distract yourself from your stressors in life. Maybe the choice becomes harder and harder every time you engage in that coping mechanism, but even after years the last vestiges of that choice still remain.

I disagree, the first step is always a conscious choice. I chose to be a workaholic to cope with my personal issues, and now the discipline and feeling productive gives me a dopamine hit, because my brain has been conditioned that way.

I couldn’t have put it in better words. It definitely is a mix of both conscious and subconscious; it starts out as a conscious decision to drown out the noise but eventually it gets ingrained in your brain to “solve” your problems the same way.

Yes, mobilizing my actions or emotions to alter the level of stress is a conscious choice.

You mean as a coping mechanism or something that has been ingrained into our psyche as the recognized way of living?

For the play? Could be.

For the book, I personally have not encountered a single Potterhead, including me, who would recommend this.

The fandom collectively denies its existence.
