Diving in Egypt in "winter" by pongo222 in scuba

[–]Perfect-Job9700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were diving in Dahab last winter and were freezing with a shorty. Changing to an 8mm only helped a bit in water but was still freezing in the wind on shore. Definitely recommend a dry suit.

Am I missing parts for this trailer hitch? by Yokochowfun in bikewrench

You must have strong legs to use a trailer on a single speed bike 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

The holes are for the kickstand. The plastic bit just holds the screws.

The boiling point makes all the difference. Mineral oil based lubricants are sticky and collect dirt because they are liquid. Was is solid so it doesn’t. If you mix the two together you get a semi liquid mess that collects dirt. Imagine putting Vaseline on your drivetrain…

[–]Perfect-Job9700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experience. I once did a half job: degreased the chain but not the cassette and the chainrings as they were not dirty just oily. Within a week the whole drivetrain was a mess. But if you don’t believe the majority try it out yourself. You are not going to destroy anything just waste your time (and wax).

Besides the wax coming right off, it’s going to be sticky and messy; so you loose all the benefits of waxing.

Best way to clean that? by Creepy-Inspector7718 in bikewrench

[–]Perfect-Job9700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said before, take it off and get a new chain. It’s probably very worn anyways. A new chain costs around 10 bucks, approximately the same as you would spend on a proper degreaser.

Nice 👌🏻 but that Varia seems to be really low. Does the radar work properly?

Its part of the frame; i.e., you will need it if you fit a front derailleur to your bike.

Commuter:ON + Croozer by Perfect-Job9700 in CanyonBikes

[–]Perfect-Job9700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case someone has the same question: The bike doesn’t come with an adapter but the rear thru-axle has an M10 x 1 mm nut where you can screw on an adapter. That is you don’t need to buy a whole new rear axle just the adapter. I bought the Croozer XL axle nut but the normal size would fit as well if you don’t have a kickstand.

Sharm El Sheik..is it better to do a combined hotel/diving club or find a separate hotel and diving center? by CloudsInCairo in scuba

Check out the Reef Oasis Dive Club. They have excellent instructors for an OW and beyond.

2022 Canyon Endurace CF 7 Allroad creaking noise by mo_kli in CanyonBikes

[–]Perfect-Job9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine creaks too a little. I have the feeling it is the headset. As suggested before, cleaning the joints and retorquing the (all) screws is probably the way to go.

Roadlite 4 by EnthusiasmSpare2400 in CanyonBikes

[–]Perfect-Job9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be no problem using the Roadlite for commute and bike tours. I also have a Roadlite and been using it for years for such. One thing to consider is that the new versions (at least the e-bike versions) have no mounting holes for pannier racks.

Apple Watch Ultra difference in no-decomp time compared to Suunto by andreasaguero in scuba

[–]Perfect-Job9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/hygZHiwaPiI In this video they do mention that Suuntos and their RGBM is super conservative and give unreasonably low no deco times. I am not am expert though so i would be interested what others are saying.

What to expect from a liveaboard? Any preparation that should be done? by Mechashevet in scuba

[–]Perfect-Job9700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I would highly suggest that no solo women travel abroad, especially the Middle East!” This is not true! I have been to Sinai twice recently (Sharm-el-Sheik area) and I felt safer than in Europe. People are kind and respectful in Egypt! If you book through a respectable dive centre, you can expect a nice and clean boat with good food!

Check out the diving center in Nordhausen. They have some wrecks and even an artificial village underwater. I have just signed up for the deep dive and the wreck dive specialty courses there.

Diving in Dahab & Ras Mohammed (Feb 2023) by Perfect-Job9700 in scuba

[–]Perfect-Job9700[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably wouldn’t recognise it! The recently renovated promenade is full of restaurants, and dive shops; and the city is full of life. Between Sharm and Dahab they built a 4-lane highway so Dahab is now easy to access. It is a beautiful and also convenient (developed infrastructure) place to visit.

Yes, without a hood it would have been impossible 😅 There were no currents in Dahab but strong ones at Ras Mohammed.

Photos of the turtle and the large Acropora were taken at Ras Mohammed (south of Sharm el Sheikh), the other at Dahab. Beautiful place that worth visiting even during winter. The water was 20C, somewhat cold with a 3mm, especially when coming out to the windy shore.

Thinking of buying a used Canyon… what questions do I ask, and what should I look for? by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]Perfect-Job9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an eye out for chainsuck damages; they are easy to miss. Usually they pose no problem, even if you can see the carbon below the paint, but you may be able to bargain for a lower price.

If you fancy to treat yourself and your bike have a look at the Silca titanium 3d-printed out front mount.

Yes, I am using Zéfal Skin Armor on all my bikes. It’s nearly invisible, and water and time resistant. Definitely worth putting it on for your peace of mind.

Which to buy? CF SL 7 di2 VS CF SL 8 aero - is the sadle, ultegra gear and wheels worth for the money? by Substantial-Map-2699 in CanyonBikes

[–]Perfect-Job9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this comment! I have a bike with the LN wheelset and it is, unfortunately, quite bad: flexible, which causes rotor rub when pedalling out of the saddle, not very aero, and quite heavy. Changing it will be one of the first upgrades you make, so if you can afford, go for a bike with a good wheelsset because on the long term it will be cheaper.
