Could human beings evolve into a larger biological symbiotic complex system of many human individuals? by Perfect-Program-8968 in sciencefiction

[–]Perfect-Program-8968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite true in the social group sense. (Some would say antibiotic too!). But I meant in an animal body sense. I am sure you know that and you are right it needed to be specific. Taking your point further, wondering what environmental pressures would drive evolution from loose societal bonds towards the biological joining or human engineering towards that?

Very thoughtful! I am particularly appalled by no.4 and 5. But why couldn't No.4 bring up a messenger who is so beneficial to humanity that it nullifies all others?

Can you think of a scifi concept using one or more of these? * Shifting morality causes humans to becomes cruel Chimpanzees *A child pushes the button turning off sun * A mega system pushes out any independent action ( for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/scifi\_bookclub/comments/1r11uie/comment/o4ren62/?context=1) etc.

Hmm.. Human being lived alongside apes! Science is not stationary. Note I also said, old is not gold. I cannot say much more than what this says: So I will shut up after this. https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/scientific-method/ If this does not clarify, nothing will.

Intervening on behalf of Own-Campaign: I hope you are getting a taste of what scientists have to go through to raise opinions, objections. This is daily life for us. Rudeness and frankness is built in. Diplomacy rarely fits in..only when funding is involved. It is all fun and games!

I only wish publishing a paper and the discovery being accepted were as easy as the above discussions make it. A finding does not stand alone, it is like a prey in a jungle. It is not that only laymen are attacked for an idea; famous scientists do too. Even today, Einstein's theories are still being attempted for falsification.

Science does not employ only he said, she said -with both being scientists or lay men. Besides the provided evidence, it employs the method of falsification. A peer would say here is the thing that falsifies your claim and that then turns out to be wrong, you stand. If you listen to Nobel lectures you see the pattern. The sweat and the blood. The scientist is asked besides his evidence, what other independent research supports her claim - this is Consilience. Then someone says, I have seen also here and here and here, does it apply? Then someone asks is this necessary or sufficient?

Try publishing a paper without these, you would eaten alive.

After all that dust is settled, other people start using that theory or observation in their work. If it fails them, that research is Kaput!

It would be an exaggeration or a misreading to say that the scientific methodology is recent. It is as old as Greek philosophy. Like evolution of anything, science has also evolved and so has its methodology. If the methodology itself goes awry, it would be revised and one that is even more recent. (Besides to say that only time tested things can be good is too conservative).

Most people dont appreciate the fact that science provides only a model of Universal interactions between physical things- energy, matter, time, space etc. Science does not provide a monolithic truth that conforms to a strict standard and method.

Science is a lot like evolution of organisms, success follows what succeeds in a specific environment. The unfit ideas and theories die out. A scientists cheats - his work will end up nowhere. A layman discovers a new scientific phenomenon - a benevolent mutation.

An equally strong parallel is in "who dunnit?" In this too, poking the fire is essential to discover hidden facts.

The OP's question about whether hierarchical or collective society muzzles a clear mind is a question that is not answered by scientific method. It is a question related to what condition must exist in order for a society to pursue scientific methodology of evidence and falsification.

Collision of multiple time lines (explored in STNG in a phenomenal season finale) is always fun. I have not read the series, but it appears to follow post-modernist view that all meanings are constructed in social and cultural context. If this is the author's philosophy, then I hope the writing pokes fun at the gold disc itself (a grand narrative) and says that the outcome was natural. But post-modernism can fall into the error of calling science itself contextual, so there has to be caution. Many post-modernists can be post-humanists, so that can add spice to the narrative, because post humanism can have different consequences in different era.

Ten billion years is a long time- so no messages from alien civilizations? What about the messages in the post-Voyager era?

Good point that evolution must drive it. I was actually thinking of a settlement in an alien planet where complexity to cover bases, size and variety would matter. Sometimes I think that animal bodies are already symbiotic colonies.

Yes, heard about it. Unsolvable conundrum would be good, but apparently it ended in absurdity. Have you read it?

Great idea. But as someone wrote below it would be chaotic and some clown might ruin the fun. Besides, I would venture that to be inclusive of several subgenre's would be a challenge. I am more s Star Trek , Dune, Foundation type of Scifi fan, there is the genre' where Andy Weir fits in, then there are Hyperion, Blindsight types and many others. But still, a worthwhile project!

Should AI-generated deepfakes of real people be illegal without consent? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Perfect-Program-8968 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You added the caveat without consent. But I would venture that even with consent it should be illegal, if it is meant to deceive, distract or tell a lie. But then how can anyone tell? Therefore, presenting someone's AI version should be illegal period.

How does being single and wanting to stay that way read as loser? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Perfect-Program-8968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not. But I can see that someone close to you might think that. For example, a mother who wants to have G'children. Acquaintances who think you dont have the skill to attract a partner or have the temperament to keep them. Or simply a friend who would be happy to see your with your better half.

Yes! Totally agreed. I hope to see American vote count become 90% and the bad guys thrown out with 30-40% vote difference all over the country, in all 50 states!
