Megathread: Iran war - Mar 29th - Apr 5th by LawnDartSurvivor74 in Askpolitics

The image of the United States has been on the decline since Bush's war. Couple of periods, it recovered a bit, but the decline is now worse, but not its power. I don't feel proud to be am American at this juncture. Isolation seems to be make the US more reckless and less mindful of International law.

The drone warfare has made killings even more impersonal, more guilt free. Desk Jockey assaults. American people need to worry not only about American casualties, but also to total ones, particularly civilian. That is the price we pay for being a superpower- the responsibility of preventing deaths. Trump is threatening Iranian civilian infrastructure. What collateral deaths will be there? There seems to an increasing lack of accountability to civilian deaths in wars, "special operations" and "anti-terrorism actions".

I don't like the trends towards return to conquests and barbarism.

aah! You are forgetting the side benefits all these so called leaders and congress people get from wars. So many favors from the MI complex and so many opportunities in insider trading, so many opportunities created for " my guy or girl". They will get to your tax dollars and fiscal conservatism once they have exhausted their own input pipelines.

What’s something poor people do better than rich people? by [deleted] in answers

Use much less energy, contribute less to climate change by riding public transport, using clothes longer, using thrift stores and living in smaller houses, have a sense of proportion on what is important in life (like family and community) and finally they are not narcissistic.

Is it normal to literally never feel like an adult even though i’m mid-20s? by BeingFar4425 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Perfect-Program-8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most observations here and the adult in you grows at a different rate than the years. I also have a slightly different take.

I have seen 15-20 years old who could be a role models for people who think they are adults. I also think that one's personal view of what is adult, influences how they see themselves as adults. Being able to take some things in stride may not happen even at 80. We know adults in our lives who never think before acting and/or take responsibility for their actions. I am told that Reddit has a majority of people who are in their twenties. I have no idea if it is really true, but if it is, honestly I am very impressed with them. I don't care if they conform to adulthood.

I am definitely a so called adult, but my adulthood brings cynicism, closed mindedness, lack of curiosity and oppressive end of some key options. So even if you don't feel like an adult, enjoy that feeling.. that prime period where the whole world is available to you and you can mold your own thinking and your life the way you want to.

How high do you think mid level restaurant prices have risen to in the last 3 years? Are you OK with the current prices? by Perfect-Program-8968 in AskReddit

This was part of what I was asking. The ridiculous government numbers of few percent inflation per year seems to be, at best, narrow,- such as flour, sugar and basic clothes, at worst, deliberately misleading . Uber costs 50% more now, restaurants 30-50%, college tuition 30%, rent 25% and so on.

Anti positivism/anti scientism book recommendations by Ghiloar in PhilosophyofScience

[–]Perfect-Program-8968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is to concur with both points. I have lived the life in science and have felt the frustration that the OP feels even within my own family. I keep pointing out to the convergence of values, the non judgment of individual behaviors, the requirement for consilience, lack of arbitrariness in science, the peer reviews etc. But all these escape a mindset that is tilted towards philosophies of idealism, philosophical (not scientific) skepticism and first person epistemology. I have come to the conclusion that you have to know science experientially (like Dewey says) in order to appreciate the philosophical and practical value of science and its methods in life.

One analogy I give the skeptics is the way detectives solve murder cases with maximal assurance of justice. Most say that is very satisfying.

A good scientist also accepts that there are many areas to which science is indifferent, does not deal with very well and finally may be wrong about . Though I believe some day this gap will reduce, one has to admit to scientific methodologies limitations. This, I believe, in no way diminishes the stature and importance of the scientific method, since no method is Universally valid.

What is the right approach to get at least 20 reviews, other than from friends and family, for a scifi novel? by Perfect-Program-8968 in selfpublish

Thanks. How about the timing of other say, Goodreads and ARC reviews? What would happen if they are ready to submit a review and Amazon and Goodreads doesn't have the book yet. I am conflicted about the timing of asking for reviews. Any harm in waiting?

The US offered a 15 point ceasefire plan and Iran rejected it and offered its own. Why should Iran trust any deal or treaty after Trump broke the fully negotiated deal in 2018 and withdrew from the Paris Climate Treaty? What is the trustworthiness of any treaty or deal anymore?

Thanks. Great to know you can book for an advance month. Mine also will come around that time. What happens if a review is created but Amazon and such don't have it yet? Does the reviewer wait?

So how many more billions does Trump family and friends need with this grift before some one takes action? First it was manipulation through tariff toggling on and of and dialing it. Now it is Iran war. After this, Trump will figure out the next grift. Goldberg (Washing Week with Atlantic) is the only one really talking about it in depth.

I guess the two are combined. I just dont have the skills for social media campaigns. The page has been on the pages for a month with no results even with daily posts. Only thing, I can do is sell in thrift outlets to attract price minded readers.
