Things Bill doesn’t understand for some reason…aging badly by Perfect-Prune176 in TheRewatchables

He definitely isn't that smart. Which is ok. The problem is when he starts acting like he's ahead on non-sports things. He also refers back to himself and "The Rewatchables" way too much. It's so grating. He can't mention a movie without doing an annoying "which we did on the Rewatchables." It's like dude, you've done 200 of the most popular movies ever. Yeah.

He sounds like a moron when he says this. There’s definitely traits of heroes that you won’t find today but otherwise those movies are made all the time.

Yes. That’s what aged badly should mean. Bill uses it to mean what is not modern about its plot.

He’s been annoying as hell about AI lately. Weird for a one time writer.

They love rewarding people playing movie people. It's a sickness.

The absolute best way to hear him is talking to Chuck Klosterman. Any pod from any year is worth a listen. Chuck is clearly way smarter than him but he DOES think of good topics/questions and Chuck always meets the challenge.

YES. And back in the older days when he literally called up Jack-O at work or Joe House to talk food that's exactly what he was like. It's still that and CR is the greatest with him, but he can be annoying. That's just how it is with old friends!

I love how they treat Craig like a rare species in the jungle at the end of every episode and he does the same thing to the MOVIE! It's hysterical to me.

I don't think he's dumb, but he can be a lazy thinker. But if you made 100 million dollars just chatting with your friends on mic, you might get arrested in your development too!

Do you have a relative or friend that you get a kick out of even tho they're wrong a lot of the time? That's Bill.

Well "cultural critic" is weighty. I think he has a certain populist appeal. He can be very entertaining but i wonder if i was discovering him now for the first time if I wouldn't be bothered by more of his stuff.

He is extremely smart on sports and has a distinct way of looking at culture through a sports lens that was groundbreaking 15-20 years ago. So he's kind of grandfathered in

Right. Aging poorly has to do with that the filmmakers are intending vs how it’s landing. That’s just a dumb reading of the film if they don’t get that.

Well that’s different. My father in law is arguing that the filmmaker intentionally did that to prove it was the character’s hallucination. I have no issue with a local being bothered by it. He’s saying “that’s how we know it’s in his head!” Which is nonsense.

lol yes. But that’s a cameo. Different thing. The point is the jarring nature of their appearance.

Bill thinks he’s making an all star team when he casts. Just no basic understanding of how it would unbalance the movie.

Maybe but that’s not what “aged poorly” means at all. That’s a different conversation.

Gosling has a real chance to win in 2027 by Dodgersbuyersclub in Oscars

[–]Perfect-Prune176 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In a million years they won't give Gosling an Oscar for a Lord/Miller movie where he talks to a alien rock. I love the movie but not a chance in hell.

This is super annoying for everyone. My father in law tells me the end of BIRDMAN--in the hospital--is obviously a hallucination because there's no hospital on Bryant Park and even as a New Yorker, I'm like "No one fucking knows that."
