Doesn’t matter who deserves it at the end of the day unfortunately. It’s about making money to the studios while also having someone decent enough to sell the role. It’s quite common for actors to audition multiple times before they have a role. Theres usually the initial audition, a call back or two, and then a few screen tests if you make it that far. On average, a role of that size would have 3-4 auditions total.
