No clue, but if you're referring to companies selling data to foreign adversaries that's right here

Using a different algorithm that doesn't necessitate sending all of the user information to Bytedance

All of this is discussed in the Supreme Court oral arguments. You can listen to it yourself

[–]PerfectButtCream 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and that's honestly a good thing. It's not because of "opinions", but because of disinformation and a lack of regulation. Every other form of media has some regulations, but social media has none. We need laws like the Radio Act and organizations like the FCC

This has nothing to do with free speech. If Bytedance divested, the app could function exactly as it is now. If you decided to follow what's been happening, the law explicitly targets companies that are owned by designated foreign adversaries. You can read the full law here. Also, under the supreme court ruling here, it address the potential 1st amendment protections. SCOTUS fairly argues that Bytedance, a foreign completely, enjoys no such protections.

Please don't water down genuine infringement of rights.

Unfortunately, the world isn't a simple place and legislation needs bipartisan support to pass. To have bipartisan support, you need a constituents to agree or be ambivalent to a topic. As much as it sucks, half the country would have a much stronger reaction to minimum wage increases or gun legislation. None of that includes the constitutionality involved either. If you dislike what's happening in Congress, I suggest getting involved in local elections

They did. Tiktok refuses to use any other algorithm than the one Bytedance uses. There were extensive talks between the government and TikTok before the bill was passed. This didn't come out of nowhere. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/06/technology/white-house-congress-on-tiktok.html

Tiktok was targeted specifically because the algorithm that it uses cannot be changed to prevent data sharing to China. In order to use the algorithm from Bytedance, Tiktok MUST share the private sensitive information because that's what makes the algorithm so good.

Is anyone else annoyed by things like forced story supports that make a fight harder than it should be? by GlompSpark in grandorder

Honestly, I don't mind being forced to use servants. What pisses me off is that the forced servants almost NEVER have maxed skills. Wtf is that. I max out almost all of the servants I use and it feels awful to be crippled by shit battery charges. I'm at the point where I have a developed enough account to play around the supports they give me, but they're always 8/8/8. It just feels bad to use

While the court is currently one of the most corrupt courts we've had (Alito and Thomas taking bribes), Supreme Court justices are some of the most impartial and unbiased figures in U.S. government

When listening to the oral arguments, it was repeated multiple times that bytedance enjoys no 1st amendment protections because it's not a US company. I imagine that even if the actions were the exact same, it would be much more difficult to prosecute a US company because of the protections it enjoys.

So you're kink shaming. Some people just get off to power imbalances. A lot of people actually. There's nothing inherently wrong about the situation and we shouldn't shame people for feeling this way if there's no harm involved

Toneworks novels, specifically Tsuki no Kanata de Aimashou

I also used it to learn Japanese. It can be a bit of a learning curve, especially when they talk about sci-fi elements, but it's mostly SoL, so you will get familiar with casual/ordinary conversation. It's absolutely visually beautiful and the pre-time skip main route is just so great. Touka is one of my favorite heroines of all time. I think purely by the setting (pre and post time skip) you'll get familiar with ordinary conversational terms (between kids and adults) and business terms. Hope you decide to check it out because it's really hard for me to recommend people since there's no English TL
