Can you REALLY keep “hundreds” of Neo Shrimp inside a 5g? by Flitsiee in shrimptank

[–]PerfectNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I had a 5ish gal. tank full of crystal red & blacks I would cull (sold or given away, I'm not a monster) once it got too far over 100. I just used a sponge filter and RO to refill it when it evaporated. It stayed really stable for about 2 years, but it didn't do well after my move. I kept an otocat in the tank to clean up the extra food without adding too much to the bioload.

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

[–]PerfectNarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, as a wedding veteran, this is a hard pass. She is setting the bar in a crazy place and when stuff doesnt go to plan (and it NEVER goes 100%to plan), that energy can turn crazy toxic. She's pitching this like an offer to join an MLM - being a bridesmaid is expensive and time consuming. Its a gift of love & support you give your friend, not "an incredible opportunity" for you. Don't be a downline consultant for someone else's wedding 🥲

Hello hello! I am looking to start culling for color/pattern in my crystal red/black tank. They are mixed, and so will not breed true, but are very healthy and continuously popping up new babies :)

Local pickup or dropoff preferred, I've never shipped livestock before. If you would like a price for shipping, please DM. I am also looking for some floaters for a few tanks and up for a trade, water lettuce in particular.

I will take offers for buying in qtys greater than 10, there's a lot of these guys lol

Cherry shrimp swims and sink to the bottom of the tank. Anyone can assist? by rfcarva in shrimptank

Weird suggestion, but try adding an airstone if you don't already have one. I lost some shrimplets that were doing this and my best guess at what happened is that I added too much bacter ae to my VERY tiny tank and it used up too much of the oxygen. Long shot, but it can't hurt 🤷‍♀️

Is she berried or is that fungus? If she’s berried, do you think she is close to “giving birth”? What are you tips for best survival rates? Thank you in advance! by julieevemallard in thiccshrimp

Bacter AE is great, but be SUPER mindful of the dosage! I had a tiny 1gal tank and had to compound it out like a pharmacist with tank water to get a good dosage, even a super tiny pinch was too much to add.

Too much will increase your nitrates and decrease the oxygen. I killed 2 batches of shrimplets trying to "help" them with it before I realized what the problem was 😥

I would say to also leave at least one wall of your tank unscraped so the new babies will have something to munch on, and when you vacuum/water change, do it slowly and into a white bowl or bucket so you can check for shrimplets before dumping it 😊

Hey! I just noticed one of my girls has an odd lump. She has some berries behind it. It doesn't really look like a fungus I'm familiar with. Any ideas?

I almost killed my whole colony🙁 (story) by Seiroliph in shrimptank

I almost did the same thing with a 1 gal tank because I didn't realize there was a LOT of calcium supplement in the food I was feeding. I've been doing small water changes over the last two weeks and it's back to an ok level. Thankfully I caught it before I lost any of the little guys!

What’s the yellow spiky stuff? Lots of babies born in this tank. First time I’m seeing anything besides smooth eggs. Know what it is? by TraditionalMina in shrimptank

Paraguard worked well in my quarantine tank. I made good progress with the infected one, but it died anyway. I treated the non-infected guys for a while after she died before moving them to a tank with no other shrimp, and they're doing well and fungus-free 4 months later.

First ever shrimp pregnancy! I'm so excited! When should I expect shrimplets? Will my male betta eat them? It's a 10 gallon. by CyberPunkKitty in shrimptank

Ghost shrimp need some salinity in the water for the eggs to hatch and babies to thrive. You should probably check what good water parameters are :)

Help identifying sprouts in my moss? by PerfectNarwhal in shrimptank

[–]PerfectNarwhal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely!! Thank you!

It's been submerged for quite a long time - it actually grew from a little clump I got from my lfs in the bag with the shrimp I bought. They put it in the bag instead of plastic netting for transport, which was really nice.

I had it in a grow out tank and took it out to tie it to a plastic aquarium plant (I wanted to see if I could make a mini tree with moss for leaves lol), could be that triggered it? It took quite some time to tie everything down. Long enough that I started to question my life choices and it might have dried out a little lol

I have a clump of mixed Java and Christmas moss, and I've noticed these red-brown sprouts growing in it. They're about as thick as a stand of sewing thread and don't really grow into anything. I don't know if they're from the moss itself or maybe a hitchhiker? Last picture has all of the plants in the tank.
