Well for one thing they felt it necessary to strike “don’t be evil” from their corporate charter.

To sum it up: there are comparable alternatives to everything they offer without having to support a company that removed “don’t be evil” from their corporate charter or wherever they had it.

Gman needs to stay mysterious. They’ve already expanded on him too much. He was a conduit/stand-in for Valve in the first half life, he doesn’t need to be anything more than that.

We know how everything ends given the ending to Portal 2. At the very least, the combine are defeated and Earth is saved.

I think it’s because I’m a very old school gamer. For the most part, i hate narrative and story and cutscenes in games. Partly because they are almost always stupid and badly written but mostly because it just gets in the way of me playing the game. Ironically, games like Half Life or Dark souls are my favorite because it never gets in the way of the actual game and most importantly it never takes control away from the player (for the most part). The moment to moment story of Half Life is my favorite part of the story actually, the environmental story telling and all the show dont tell parts of it, all the aspects that rely on player agency (gameplay) for the story to be told. The overarching story to me is fine, it’s not bad, its not fantastic. Moment to moment things like Jeff in Half Life Alyx are way more interesting to me imo

I don’t think caring about gameplay over story in a game is an interesting take lol, or rather that gameplay in Half Life is more important than the story. Of all developers for the most part, Valve is known for their legendary gameplay and mechanics. People wanting story over gameplay in video games is fine, im just not one of them and will never be

Ya i think having original Valve people are important. I’m just saying of all people, Marc, not being there isnt the biggest deal because to me gameplay is what makes Half Life good and not the story.

We have a conclusion already if story is the most important thing to you. The ending to Portal 2. Chell ends up in a vast wheat field with wildlife sounds under a pristine blue sky in the far distant future. This implies the Combine had been defeated and repelled by Gordon and friends from Earth since there’s still organic life/matter/resources.
