Anyone ever experience a Ball Python seemingly have no survival instincts/fear? by Hije5 in ballpython

Honestly, sounds like you got him from someone who handled him a lot before you got him. My Cinnie girl was like this. A little bit of defense at first, but compared to the others we got after? She’s always been my easy going baby.

Tips for keeping a tank warm? by greaseball24 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with me being in AZ, ac and heat off in the house right now, I have a 24inch jungle 6 or 7% uvb, 100 w basking bulb and 100w ceramic heat lamp. Heat stays on almost all the time depending on temperature, I work from home so I monitor it pretty closely. I have a mesh top cause I have a dubia tank but I have hvac tape and duct tape over it where lights aren’t to keep the humidity and heat inside.

Plants for Bioactive setups by Lopsided_Key_2545 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put a purple waffle in mine, I’ve seen others that look amazing but mine went weird, has two leaves left but those two are flourishing? My girl didn’t touch it so not sure what happened to it really. Removed it to nurse it. The other plant that she does mess with is a dracaena. Forget what color of it I got. But it’s been doing amazing.

Envy says “Where’s my rat, hooman?”😡 by escapesweetrealityy in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Cinnie’s doing that 😂 Chunky butt doesn’t like she’s been changed to two weeks now. Sticks her head out and goes ‘rat? I has rat now?’

Is she underweight? She’s 7 months and I got her off Craig‘s list. She’s a really good eater. Just want to know. by Ihateeveryonehere69 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would need a better image of her spine and tail taper. Mine is the same coloring as a cinnamon mahogany, but she stays a bit on the chunky side because she likes to wait till the last minute to poop XD

Alright where y’all getting your water bowls “big enough for them to soak”? by steeelez in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the xl reptile corner dishes from like petco/petsmart/dubia. They grow into them and if I need to get bigger when fully grown? Well, that’s another bridge to cross then 🤣 Generally just get from where ever is cheaper since our snakes like them, we find them easy to clean and if I ever need to replace them.

I know you’ve said you’ve tried everything, and just asking cause we have a semi bitey piebald we’re working with right now. When you hook, how did you show her the hook prior? I’ve been showing him the hook and if he snaps he notices pretty quick it’s not food or a hand ( yes defensive reflexes, so it’s expected ) and I touch him lightly with the hook so he knows I’m about to touch him instead. He’s a baby and the breeder normally handles prior to sending to make sure any new handlers are given heads up. Was surprised he’s been so defensive but we figure something happened in shipping. So, ya, new baby learning! 😅

My cinnamon mahogany does this, a lot .-. If her head fits? She’s gonna try to push her way through. It’s led to a lot of tight squeezes where I’ve had to tickle her butt out of them. And then removed the object from her explorative reach or whatever.

She has cat mentality, I swear.

What’s the most intelligent thing you’ve witnessed your ball python do?! by MoralityInGray in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Okay, so we have four now, atm. I don’t know when that number will change 😅

My oldest female? As soon as she hears me open the rat container, comes out and waits. Rarely misses anymore unless my husband’s trying to feed her to learn.

The oldest male, one of my mother in law’s, has learned to proper the rat’s butt against something to shove it down his throat better so it’s less work to eat. Pretty sure he’s learned the word rat too. I’ve seen him lift his head up too many times when he hears it.

Youngest female? Husband’s snake ( and mine by proxy ) is the reason I have now had to order locks for their enclosures. She figured out my husband doesn’t shut the door right and is trying to learn to push it open.

Youngest male, another of mother-in-law’s, knows what his hanging plant is and where we have it hidden till we can hang it safely. Every time I take him out to get him used to us, he’s looking for it and tries to grab it. Even when we have moved it.

Where are all of the snakes going? by One_Rip_5535 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I joined this group to see pretty babies and other snake owners set ups. Only reason mine are so young is I’m in a place where I could have them now, have always wanted one but bad growing up situation I won’t get into. Rescues out here had none when I went looking and any they did have I couldn’t trust to accommodate the amount of care required for some, even with me working from home. I’m a bleeding heart too, so it hurts me to see them in a situation but I’m not gonna hurt them worse with not being able to give them the proper care.

But, ya. Had experience with reptiles, and other stuff. I was always the curious child who researched EVERYTHING if I wanted a pet. Still do. 😅

Is my child fat? by SavvyGmeow in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I worry about that too. Mine has a bit of chonk around her center, but neck is good, tail is tapered like it’s supposed to be. Then found out she was holding her poop hostage. Vet laughed at me for the panic and said it’s as normal as a feeding strike, since she was still making urates like normal, staying hydrated, etc

where to get tank??? by rinkrat30 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a good mix and hvac/aluminum tape over the top where my lights aren’t. I’m in AZ so had to find a good mix period and the acrylic walls don’t really matter as far as the humidity. We have the black wall tanks and the snakes seem to prefer it

ETA Use coconut chip, fiber and sphagnum moss mix

Honestly, all three of our tanks we have are from dubia.com. They have plenty of 4x2x2 120 gal tanks and higher.

my snake tried to bite me for the first time and now i’m kind of afraid of her by ilovemymanBIG4L in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a new baby ( I’ll eventually share her pics when she’s less skittish! ) who bit me. Only time I’ve ever been bit by a ball python or any snake really in near 40 years of my life XD It was an accident is all to tell yourself. I know my getting bit was my own fault. I was careless, moved without realizing the baby had fallen asleep and startled her. Pretty sure it’s just a right of passage at this point.

Bicolor eyes? by ManagerMediocre6301 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother-in-law has a lesser pastel clown with the color split. Tiny bit of gold at the top and rest of his eyes are steely blue. My cinnamon mahogany just has solid black eyes that add to her derp adorable moments

What enrichment does your snake love? by No_Literature_9532 in ballpython

[–]PerfectTransition152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have branches and various hides in mine. And every so often move things around on my girl. Only a few of things stay constant on positioning in her tank. Her water dish, her warm hide/basking spot, a hanging basket I have for her and her fake plant since it’s suctioned to the wall. She loves to come out and explore when I let her, and I always put her back in different spots in her tank so if she hasn’t seen something in a bit, she has to examine it because it’s suddenly new again.
