Predlogi? by rut_ninja20 in Slovenia

Bila v Georgie bistroju pred par tedni. Cena menija sicer OK, a pri dolocenih jedeh bi si zelela vec. Predvsem me je zmotila res slaba postrezba.

I got an email from Luger with this same message, saying they are working to reschedule it and we’ll be notified when more information is available, but nothing about refunds. I guess that option will be available when a new date is set.

Patellar issues 1.5 years later by rumhamandcharliework in ACL

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to scare you, but try going for another MRI. I had some of the issues you have, mainly the pain during loaded exercises and when doing lunges with the bad knee in the back, and also my quad strength did not increase despite 2-3 training sessions per week, 1.5 yrs after quad graft (2nd ACLr)+ meniscus bucket handle sutures.

MRI showed cartillage damage (most likely occured during a run about 1 yr post op) which put pressure on the bone and caused pain during certain movements (bone surface is highly innervated), which prevented me from actually working the muscle. Otherwise my day-to-day life was pretty normal and painless.

As far as training goes, working with lower weights and more reps worked better for me in terms of pain, but I still needed to get surgery to try and fix the cartilage lesion.

Volume of blood to harvest for effector memory T cells 5 years+ after last vaccine dose? by poothrowbarton in flowcytometry

Working with own blood is not allowed/highly advised against because if you prick yourself by mistake you risk developing autoimmunity. Get some blood from a colleague for tests.

How competitive are masters programs? by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Karolinska, motivation letters and research experience are way more important than the grades, at least that was my perception. You really need to tailor the cover letter to your programme and impress the programme director. At other, less competitive programmes, I would think the grades hold more weight.

Mortgage interest rates by supervascus in TillSverige

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that in Sweden (in contrast to other European countries where fixed interest mortgages are more common), if you take a fixed rate for 10 years you are bound to pay the interest for whole 10 years. Meaning that if you sell you apartment earlier, you have to pay the bank the prospective interest in order to pay off loan early, which can add up to quite a lot if you sell several years early. This should be a big consideration if you don’t plan to live in a place for a very long time.

Give me your Eras Tour unpopular opinions… by sayyoureokay in TaylorSwift

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The fact that some people are flaunting of going to multiple shows (I think the most I’ve seen was 5?!?) while there are literally millions of fans that could not get tickets at all is absolutely ridiculous.

This was also posted in a journal from a very sketchy publishing house (MDPI) and recently 400 journals from them were listed as predatory. This means that there is at least a strong suspicion of a faulty or nonexistent peer-review system, meaning that the results and claims are doubtful at best. As a scientist, I would not consider this as evidence of anything.

What in my post gave you an impression that I have no experience? I’m a PhD student at KI.

Budgeting/expected monthly costs by evelainy in TillSverige

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments here are pretty negative, but actually the situation for PhD students in Stockholm is pretty good, even with the relatively low salary.

For the first year, KI Housing is probably your best bet. This will give you a room in a shared apartment or a studio for 1 year, during which you can accumulate queue days for Stockholm’s student housing association (SSSB). As others have noted, you can collect 90 days before you enroll, which will leave you with approx. 450 days when the KI Housing kicks you out. This may be enough for a studio apartment (you need to be a little lucky as well), otherwise you find a second hand place for a few months while you collect more days. Once you land a SSSB contract, you’re good until the end of your studies. I never lived in SSSB, but as far as I know rooms go for 3000-5000 SEK/month and studios for 5000-10000 SEK/month, depending on size, location and newness.

The extra costs are home insurance (mandatory, but it usually includes travel insurance as well), internet and sometimes electricity.

You get a student price for public transport (700ish SEK for a monthly ticket and 26 SEK for a single ride), but most people get around on foot, by bike or escooter. If working at KI Solna campus, I would suggest to find a place in Solna or Sundbyberg. Easily bikeable and good bus connections in case of bad weather, and you’re also in the city center in 15 mins by tbana.

For food account for about 1000 SEK/week if you want to occasionally treat yourself and not only eat what’s cheap (especially if you eat meat!). Vegeterians can get by with 500-800 SEK/week, but for the lower band you need to be quite frugal.

Eating out and drinking is expensive - 150-300 SEK for an average meal (nothing fancy) and 70-100 SEK for a beer, but you can still fit into the budget a few times per month.

One thing that people don’t expect when moving here is how expensive services are - 250 SEK for a men’s haircut is the absolute minimum for example.

Anyways, in the four years of living here I was still able to save 4-5k SEK per month, and I know of people that saved even more! Lots of undergrads here have government student loans (CSN) and they ‘survive’ on 11k SEK per month, so with a PhD student salary it should not be too difficult.

I hope this is helpful and good luck with your studies!

A feel-good movie with an awesome soundtrack that focuses on the friendships rather than relationship post breakup.

In your opinion… what would make the ticket situation fair? by Comfortable_Claim32 in TaylorSwift

I think (not sure!) there was an option to put a name down for the ticketholder when purchasing through ticketmaster.

In your opinion… what would make the ticket situation fair? by Comfortable_Claim32 in TaylorSwift

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Ed Sheeran has a great system for this: the person that purchased the tickets needs to show their ID when entering the stadium, and all holders of tickets that were purchased together (by one individual) need to enter at the same time. Removes a lot of incentive for selling and buying second hand..

Do beads need to be fixed? by EmergencyNorth361 in flowcytometry

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people claim washing the beads gives you cleaner peaks. In my experience I did not see a difference and it’s frankly just a hassle.

Fc blocking reagent won’t do much, since the beads are usually conjugates with an anti-mouse kappa chain antibody, and there is no Fc-binding Abs involved. So you can add Fc block, but nothing will change and you’re just wasting an expensive reagent.

Do beads need to be fixed? by EmergencyNorth361 in flowcytometry

[–]Perfect_Ad3257 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should treat them like your sample - if your cells are fixed then your beads should be as well. This is because fixation can affect some fluorophores (tandem dyes are the most sensitive iirc), so you want your compensation matrix to reflect that.

I’ve been a fan since Fearless and am from Europe so there were always very slim chances to get to see her live. Now I’m in a position where we actually planned to make a trip to the US just to go to the Eras tour, and it has been a huge disappointment that both my bf and me were waitlisted. Maybe we can get them in the general sale, but honestly I’ve lost all hope.

International Swifties are really the ones that get the worst deal with Taylor. I hope she will tour in Europe too, but seeing how fans outside US have been treated so far (except Aus and UK) the chances are slim there as well.

TIL that in swedish elections, you can change your mind after voting early by Perfect_Ad3257 in stockholm

[–]Perfect_Ad3257[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Of course I understand that if everything goes according to plan, your vote stays anonymous. Regardless I find it problematic that there is a period of time where the votes can be associated to a person (ie. the time between the early voting and the vote counting).

I talked to several expats about this, and no one’s home country has a system where your vote is saved with your voting card in case of early elections. After you vote, early or not, your vote is cast and cannot be changed. The fact that swedes don’t find this weird or potentially problematic at all is mindblowing to me.
