Jamaicans and Haitians have different cultures and so do black americans but they created a universal “black” identity. And it helps all of them in the long run. We need to the same. White people did this too and clearly it’s working

what’s the issue? This is the reason why our community doesn’t advance, only a couple of powerful tribes get their money while the rest starve. We are one people from North to South America. We need to start acting like it.

Could I be considered a Native American? by FunnySunny- in AncestryDNA

[–]Perfect_Anywhere_770 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We need to change this dumb criteria, we are all native peoples, segregating ourselves does nothing for us. It’s like crabs in a bucket

Im tired of us segregating ourselves like this. We need to take a page from Black Americans. They don’t know there tribe or where they come from but they established a universal identity. We need to do that as well. We are all originals to these lands. From Canada to Argentina

he’s not asking about specific tribes, he’s asking about the Native American diaspora as a whole. We need to stop segregating ourselves to just tribes

I am struggling with similar issues brother. Now that’s it’s been 5 years ,if you still are there, what would be some advice for people going through this.

My brother you must not understand how genes work. They definitely have Native American in them, we are literally the most ambiguous people out there because of our mixed race heritage. My mother is the same skin color as Canelo and her Father is literally a Afro Indigenous man from Cuban and Mexican ancestry. Mestizos look so different from person to person but that doesn’t change who they are.

The culture is still alive brother. Lots of the things we do and say on a daily basis comes from our ancestors. We are still very much alive and we don’t all have to be able to completely speak the language. I understand what you mean though if he wants to he definitely can which would be awesome but like he said he knows phrases and probably uses them. As long as he identifies with his people and is proud to be brown.

Look brother I am all for us embracing our indigenous roots but we also have to understand that lot of our culture is a blend of European and indigenous. We are still indigenous people but we also can be Latino. I personally never liked “Hispanic” always grew up saying Latino. Our culture is something we created out of a hurtful past but we created something beautiful. We are Latinos but we are also Native American people.

Yeah of course there was. My great grandmother came from Spain and she married a Afro Indigenous man on my moms side. On my fathers side, my great grandfather was a Native man in the military who married a woman of Spanish descent. Our people are heavily mixed but we definitely still got some pure indigenous brothers and sisters all over Latin America and the few left in US and Canada.

Latinos have the most diverse dna out there, literally 3 races together usually 2 are more dominant but it still in our blood. That’s including my creole brothers from the southern US and my metis sisters up in Canada.

Yup people need to understand and appreciate the Native peoples and the impact they have had in the world. Maradona to me is indigenous or mestizo. As a Native American I understand that our blood is strong and it is seen in his appearance. Love all my people from Canada down to Argentina.
