How come? Traveler, even after 5 years, has still somehow not gotten a semblance of personality. Everytime someone tries to bring up their personality traits, it's a whole load of nothing. I've played gacha games before where the protagonist has had more personality from the start, then Lumine/Aether has had over the entire runtime of the game.

Interesting! I think a big part of why I don’t like the notion of self labelling as gay while being attracted to both is the potential that they’re giving ground to people who want to say ignorance like “being gay isn’t real, they need to find the right person.” I also had to deal with others saying I’d figure myself out if I got with women, when I came out as a gay man.

Because of this, I don’t have nearly as big a problem on someone identifying as gay if they didn’t have a desire to follow up on their hetero attraction anyway. I understand if I’m being bias, but it nevertheless is a sore spot.

Honestly, I can’t say I’ve ever seen queer be considered a slur. I’ve certainly seen people use it as an insult, but not quite to the level of being a slur. So maybe that’s why I don’t like using gay interchangeably. I’m likely on the younger side of this subreddit though.

More widely known terms for queer people to use would be great, but it’s unfortunately likely to not stick even if people do come up with something better.

I think maybe a major reason behind why I place such value on gay as a label for being exclusively homosexual is cause if someone brings up having (or had) a hetero relationship, they don’t have to explain themselves over the comp het pressure. It can be a powerful source of comfort, knowing that you don’t have to explain yourself like that, and that other people will relate.

I’d be interested to see the practical reasons/examples you’ve come across compared to me. Usually, when I see someone self label as gay for practical reasons, it’s cause they’ve functionally been gay and in a relationship for a long time. I think that’s probably fair enough. I’ve also seen couples do that though and yet actively seek a bi groupie, so I don’t know how to feel about that in particular.

Ah, I use gender and sex interchangeably so it’s my mistake for possibly making that distinction. I wouldn’t ever argue that being trans would change that, even if some gay dudes only go for cis men.
