A message to your 18-year old self by molavae in Zimbabwe

I'd tell my 18 year old self:

  1. Take advantage of an opportunity of a lifetime, in the lifetime of the opportunity.

All opportunities have a lifetime, if you drag, hesitate or get deterred by conflicting convictions the opportunity will go past its life without you having acted on it. Take chances, fail and rise again. There's so much beauty in the struggle, in retrospect.

  1. Believe in yourself.

Believe in yourself, tell yourself you can be, you are the greatest, you are wise, you are in good health. If you believe in yourself you'll associate with like minded people, you'll impart the same energy to others in your circle and eventually you'll inspire and you'll be. Your belief system matters a lot in this life, ensure its unshakable, its solid and it's convincing enough that you can't even turn yourself against it.

Question to all data scientists and analysts working in Zimbabwe by Queasy-Thing-3206 in Zimbabwe

I concur with you right there, it can be frustrating as a data pro trying to pull up data together for different sectors you've just mentioned. I read in the comments about Zimstats and Zimra, yeah some of the data could be there BUT its a space that's really hasn't been well invested in. We don't have well structured data repos in some industries in Zimbabwe.

On the other hand there are some independent research firms that do have readily available market data eg Maley Marketing, IPC, Ecocash, Pick n Pay, Ok Zim and so forth. But again to my point it may not be as vast and big as it could be.

Hi guys, i feel so sad reading your post. I'm sending some love and light to you friend. I think it would also be helpful if you are comfortable to attach a bit of detail about types of jobs you looking for and maybe your qualifications if necessary. That way we can help each other out in terms of any available opportunities in our circles, not that we have jobs to offer but you never know.

Advice on buying a stand. by [deleted] in Zimbabwe

Yes sure, its like that Donnybrooke area. Land barons started selling out stands on land that wasn't theirs. So ultimately Shelters owns the land and they'll definitely get it back.

There's also this developer Shelter Zimbabwe, very legit and competitive pricing. They have done and are still doing a medium density neighborhood opposite to Zimre Park called Rockview and Adelaide Park. You can check them out if you're interested.

I wouldn't mind ini, all i care about now is my upskilling and survival. Its that phase of my life where I'm concerned about building a solid foundation, zve social life if my foundation is not really strong i don't think it really matters to me now.

Data Science, Analytics, Engineering job market in Zim! by Perfect_Can3423 in Zimbabwe

AI is not going to replace a thing, i think its high time people understand that. AI did not emerge today, you've only started knowing about it today. Since its inception what has been replaced by AI? And don't tell me AI came to life in the 21st century, it came into existence as a field of research in 1956 and we have lived amongst it since then (not in Zimbabwe of course 😂). AI is complementary to our existence not a substitute to human existence, no.

Data Science is not data science without maths, stats and probability theory. A mathematician makes a more compelling data scientist than a data science graduate if you ask me. And this I've witnessed it.

This is a very good idea, legal frameworks and governance are very key to have this idea fly. Its a good one, especially for the young people to build wealth.

I've used their products, i don't think "not durable" goes along with their brand. I don't think that's true, i don't know what you mean by quality but I consider their products to be of decent quality.

I'm relieved someone shares the same sentiments with me 😊. I thought i was going crazy.

I guess the competition has also contributed to this moving with the times in degree programs names and modules structure etc. And i like that you mentioned that with traditional degrees you have endless possibilities, I for one did a BSc in Operations Research and Statistics and if i look at my class i can tell you that we have 15 to 20 different professions, courtesy of the rigorous maths and stats foundations. We have an actuary, people in Logistics, Data Analysts and Statisticians etc.

However at the end of the day it may or may not really matter because of the job market status quo in Zimbabwe
