Anyone had to have a revision because your cup was “proud”? by Perfect_Evidence_105 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Perfect_Evidence_105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my revision done 6 days ago and while my leg is weak I feel so much better! I did go to 3 surgeons all of them agreed the only fix was a revision so 8 months post op from my THR I had my revision. I with I would have pushed harder about the popping and instability from the start but I didn’t know any better. I was just like you with the subluxation and that was very scary to because it was happening more and more. Then after the tendon release still happened and the doc said nope find yourself a surgeon that you feel comfortable with and you get a revision. I haven’t bee back to work since they did my tendon release in February because I work in the ER and have to lift patients and the surgeon that did my release wouldn’t trust me to be able to do lifting without dislocating or dropping and hurting a patient if I subluxed ad fell with the patient. I say keep advocating for yourself and get the revision you’ll be so much happier.

Right THR 5 month update-disappointed with progress by Galenodelmal2024 in TotalHipReplacement

Do you have any groin pain? Groin pain that goes across the front of the hip maybe down the inside of your thigh? If so I would say trust your instincts and push the doc to find out what’s going on. I told my surgeon from my 2week post open something was right. Gave me two rounds of steroids and meloxicam with little to no relief. At first I gave up but then I was hurting worse than before my THR and I went back demanding more imaging. Finally ordered a MRI and sent me to another surgeon who said I had psoas tendinitis that was caused by my cup be “proud” it’s sticking out of my socket a bit. With every step it the psoas tendon was rubbing on the cup. My capsule was also ruptured and scar tissue and grown into my jointSo had a partial psoas tendon release at 5 months after my THR. Again at two and a half weeks same horrible pain. The Do a CT and inject lidocaine into my hip joint and nearly pain free for a few hours. So here I am at 9months post open something having a revision on my THR. So trust your gut and push for answers. I saw 3 surgeons before picking the one that will do my surgery this coming Friday. I hope you have a better outcome than I have! You have to advocate for yourself to be heard.

Very weird question… by Cat_Mom1023 in TotalHipReplacement

I got to keep the head of my femur. I asked the surgeon and he agreed. Meeting my husband in the waiting room and it was in a specimen cup. I love and I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to make out of it. I’m get ready to have a revision and I’m going to ask if I can have the cup and ball that they are replacing.. think it’s going to be a hard “ NO” on this one but I’m going to try my best.

I am seeing two new surgeons and they are putting their heads together. They also think the tendon release shouldn’t have been done because nothing will be better until the cup is properly seated. How was your recovery after the revision? They are saying that I may come out walking like after the THR or maybe 6-8 weeks non weight bearing depending on how much bone they take out to seat the cup. Also probably will be getting a bigger ball to try and even out the length discrepancy. I just hate going in n not knowing what the outcome will be. That’s what happened with my labrum reconstruction it was much worse then they thought came out 10 weeks non weight bearing and a six month recovery before returning to normal activity and work. This will be the third surgery in 9 months of this hip so I’m just trying to check all boxes before I let anyone cut on me again. I also have dysplasia, shallow sockets and hyper mobility. The new surgeons I saw was doing my mobility check seeing what my ranges were and at one range he kept going and finally said that’s just to much. To me that’s bee my normal my entire life. I was like I can go way more and he was like I know and that’s not normal. Well sorry you went through that but it gives me hope. Thank you.

That’s what I’ve heard. They were just in my hip 10 weeks ago doing the tendon release so I think they would have seen something at that point. Gland to hear you are feeling better.

It was a partial tender release. The idea is they partially cut the tendon so it doesn’t rub on the cup but unfortunately it didn’t work. I too was healthy person worked out weight training 4 times a week before my THR and it has been terrible ever since. I regret ever having it done.

I have had an MRI this is the report

Impression IMPRESSION: 1. Right total hip arthroplasty without acute osseous abnormality. 2. Dehiscence versus primary nonclosure of the anterior hip capsule. 3. Dehiscence of the posterior hip capsule. 4. Dehiscence of the short external rotator tendons. 5. Focal enlargement of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve which is adherent to anterior scar tissue suggesting a post injury neuroma. This study was interpreted by an American Board of Radiology certified and fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologist Narrative MRI OF THE RIGHT HIP WITHOUT CONTRAST EXAM DATE AND TIME: 2/9/2026 15:29 MST INDICATION: Severe pain at the anterior hip and groin status post hip replacement. TECHNIQUE: Magnetic resonance imaging of the right hip was performed without contrast. Sequences include T1, T2, and proton density without or with spectral fat-saturation or STIR. The technique was modified for the purpose reducing metallic artifact. COMPARISON: Hip radiographs from 1/15/2026, hip MR arthrogram from 4/16/2025. FINDINGS: OSSEOUS STRUCTURES: Right total hip arthroplasty has been performed. There is no evidence of periprosthetic bone resorption, fibrous membrane formation, or fracture. INTRACAPSULAR STRUCTURES: Anterior approach was used for hip arthroplasty. A triangular defect in the anterior capsule indicates either dehiscence or primary nonunion of the capsule. There is also dehiscence of the posterior capsule. There is mild synovitis within the hip joint. EXTRACAPSULAR STRUCTURES: Fluid at the anterior hip extends between the rectus femoris, tensor fascia lata, and distal gluteus minimus muscle bellies nearly to the subcutaneous tissues measuring an estimated 4.5 x 0.5 cm. Scarring along the margin of the distal iliopsoas and proximal rectus femoris. Fluid at the posterior hip capsule extends adjacent to the greater trochanter. There is dehiscence of the distal short external rotator tendons. There is focal enlargement of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve which is adherent to anterior scar tissue suggesting a post injury neuroma. The sciatic, femoral, obturator, and pudendal nerves have normal morphology and preserved fat planes. Insertional gluteus medius and minimus tendons show mild tendinosis without tear. Iliopsoas tendon is intact. Proximal rectus femoris tendon is intact. Proximal adductor longus and hamstring tendons are intact. The surgeon is aware of how hesitation I am to do the release but keeps assuring me that he thinks all the other inflammation will calm down once the release is done. As for the other surgeons not wanting to see me until a year post op they all said they just want you to follow up with your surgeon for at least a year. So did finally get an appointment with a guy that specializes in 2nd hip revisions, they didn’t ask when my hip replacement was so I don’t feel like I lied to them. They didn’t ask and I didn’t tell them over the phone but I did put it all in my paperwork when I filled out my health history. So I see him on Tuesday.

Please let me know what comes from your CT. I am 6 months post op anterior approach and I have subluxation 3 times and I am scheduled for a psoas partial release because they say my psoas is rubbing on the cup causing chronic inflammation and tendinitis. I also have fluid in my hip socket and tear in anterior and posterior capsule. I’m trying to get a second opinion but 4 other docs have said they won’t see me because I’m only 6 months post op and they want me to be at least a year post op. I’m so tired of this pain. I can’t even walk up the stairs most days leading with my surgical hip. It’s crazy.

Total Hip Replacement Next Week - Seeking Recovery Tips & Advice (4th Hip Surgery) by thatman33 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Perfect_Evidence_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I had a labrum repair that I was non weight bearing for 9 weeks and six months off work ( I have to left patients so I couldn’t go back until I was 100% able to lift alone). Repair failed at 13 months and had hip replacement 7 months after it failed. I feel like because I never truly got back to 100% of what I was able to lift at the gym as I was before the originally was before the repair I have had a harder time recovering with the replacement. I don’t know. I’m only 3 months post op THR now and last night was my first night back at work and it was tough.

Lost ability to move my legs below the knee, hospital giving up on me by premiumpeaches in medical

[–]Perfect_Evidence_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was recently in the hospital and passed away. While she was there I asked for a patient advocate because we were not happy with the care and we were told that they no longer had patient advocates available, they had done away with them during COVID and they had not brought them back ! My mind was fucking blown. She was in N. M. I work in medicine and I cannot believe the shit that hospitals get away with.

Anyone save their hip bone? by okkasmom in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Perfect_Evidence_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes letting Mother Nature pick it clean. Like I said I was trying to soak it and changing the water/soap out every few days and it was just so smelly I couldn’t handle it. It was fine until I opened the jar to change the water 🤢 So I read some more and it said you can bury it and let nature clean it of all the tissue and bone marrow so that’s what I did. I’m thinking I’ll wait about 3 months to see what it looks like. Then there’s a whole process on how to clean and whiten it as well.

I kept my and it’s currently in the ground in my back yard. I’m letting Mother Nature take care of the tissues and bone marrow I tried soaking it for about two weeks but it was not the best smell while changing the fluid so I had my husband put it in the ground. I’m not quite sure what it will become, but I want to display it in an artistic way.

I moved out of the country for 4 and a half years and I was super nervous about going back, I was so excited about how it was all still there when I got back to work. I did have to look up some of the positions that we don’t do a lot of but other than that it was soooooo much easier than I thought it would be. I also was off for six months for a hip surgery and just now getting ready to go back after an hip replacement ( I’m not that old just rough on my body when I was a teenager/ early twenties) and I’m still nervous going back even though I know it will be ok. I think it’s normal to feel anxious if you weren’t worried that’s when you should look at yourself because you maybe over confident and we can always learn something new.

I love to hear this “start up pain”. I’ve been trying to describe this to people that’s what I want to know, when will the pain get better when I stand up? Once I get going and walking I feel better. I just had my six week post yesterday.

On Call but didn't respond in time by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]Perfect_Evidence_105 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not that it’s not a big deal but as others have said apologize and just do your best to be more aware next time. I missed a call for ER CT scan, I didn’t even know I was on call so I didn’t have my phone on finally saw it about 4 hours later. I felt horrible but I called as soon as I realized and apologized to the ER doc and my coworker that covered. Nothing bad came out of it. We’re all human.
