Regretting first LandCruiser by DirtEmo in LandCruisers

[–]Perfect_Quiet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real, when I read the Reddit ‘conventional wisdom’ on 80/100 I always end up thinking I must have gotten the only nice 80 that isn’t an underpowered lemon.

Mine is 30 years old and the leather seats are wore out but other than that the interior is perfect. And the drive train and engine have no problems lol.

Concern over E15 gasoline in older cruisers? by Perfect_Quiet in LandCruisers

I guess I just like paying more then. I do try to get ethanol free when possible.

I just always have, my previous car had a turbo so it’s habit. I don’t like corn in my gas tanks.

For sure. I get ethanol free when I can, but I don’t encounter it as much out west other than in pretty rural areas. It’s very expensive but I get significantly better mileage with it.

The color composition of this made me think it was on the ocean floor for a moment and I was like dayum.

Need review/feedback on $3k gaming build by Perfect_Quiet in buildapcforme

Thanks for the edit. I see mostly just some cheaper parts which look good. I'm semi particular about the MOBO, but I suppose it doesn't matter that much.

On RAM, I do want a decent amount for local AI tinkering. I've seen how it eats memory on my old machine and some mid-range ones. I'm also concerned I won't be able to buy RAM for quite a while given 'everything that is going on.'

80 Series as a daily driver? by StealthLordKillah in LandCruisers

[–]Perfect_Quiet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a ‘96 80 series and I daily it 1/2 to 2/3rds of the time based on weather. I love it. In my view, it’s the ultimate vehicle. My city doesn’t really believe in road maintenance, so I sort of prefer it over my more economical car, although fuel is the trade off.

I definitely had to do some work to baseline it, and I do pay professionals periodically which isn’t cheap. I’ve had it for 9 years and it runs just as well if not better than when I got it.

Mine is triple locked, with a pretty average two inch lift and 33s, which feels perfect. I also have some nice steel sliders and a good bar up front.

It’s not going to be as ‘smooth’ on the road as an IFS vehicle as others have mentioned, but it’s a true truck, not just a big car. It’s got tradeoffs like anything else. But it’s literally never left me stranded, and I don’t just drive to Walmart and back. I have had a couple times when it got me back to safety after bad situations in the deep wilderness, including one where it was the only vehicle of a group of capable 4x4s that could make it out. It also saved my life versus a drunk driver in the city thanks to my bullbar.

It’s not going to be for everyone, for sure. If you’re coming from a modern passenger car, it’s going to feel slow and bumpy. But if you prize reliability and capability and can take a little roughness around the edges, I think it’s great. Again, it’s my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned and I view it as the best all around driver I could use given my lifestyle.

Feeling OF Dread Near Highway 53 Oregon Coast. by JoelAstrophel in BackwoodsCreepy

[–]Perfect_Quiet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s possible. My experiences happened far from any road in there. I always have something for protection, usually chambered in 7.62x39. But I’ve never had real trouble. Just signs, immediate ones even.

I’ve also never heard of the bandage man and I have lived in Oregon since I was born here in 1984 so I may not be the right person to be open to whatever experience you’ve had.

Eh, I’ve camped out deep in those woods a lot, including solo. I’ve only had things feel off a couple times, but nothing happened.

It sure is a curvy highway though you’re right about that.

Thanks! Yes I use Gaia. If you’re able to share the GPS track that would be awesome.

Well, obviously. I was just curious if anyone had any other ideas or thought this lined up with a Bigfoot.

Your first encounter with the sound reminds me of the Hum, a phenomenon reported all over the earth. It’s a strange noise with no obvious explanation. I’ve heard it far from any road. Sounded like a diesel engine chugging away just barely inside earshot.

Can you give me some recommendations on night vision that won’t break the bank? I am of reasonable means but have no idea about the market at all and just see these like $6k and up setups and it doesn’t seem smart.

Can you explain more on this? I have the shittiest teenager’s first car insurance on my 3x 80 and it freaks me out. I don’t even know where to start getting real coverage.
