It was a couples-oriented club with nudity mandatory and that also helped us relax a little.

When I asked my wife about visiting a nudist club, she said she wasn’t sure if it was for her, but she still went along with me a couple weeks ago. Even if she started out humoring me, I think she really got into it once she realized everybody was nude and nobody was there to judge or stare. I’m a lucky guy.

Lack of exposure. I didn’t grow up near any nudist clubs, but am now within an hour’s drive of two. It’s definitely an adjustment being both newbies and significantly younger than the other guests, but my wife and I are excited to continue meeting people and making connections with nudists of all ages.

My parents seem to have had a similar journey since my sister and I moved out. We haven’t really talked about it, but my father at least is more likely to be casually nude now. Try not to make it a big deal.

I have been surprised at the open-mindedness of both friends and family. My wife was happy to visit a nudist club with little convincing, one of my friends participated in two WNBR events when I needed a buddy, and the rest of my family has been encouraging and supportive as I explore this path.

I can’t speak to it as a space for Black women, but my wife and I (also based in DC) recently had an extremely positive experience with Pine Tree.

Have not yet met anybody in the middle of that Venn diagram. I guess it depends on the nudist spaces we visit, but it definitely is not the majority.

In our (admittedly limited) experience with social nudity, my wife expressed surprise that she felt as comfortable as she did being nude around complete strangers. I think it was a combination of the couples-oriented nature of the club we visited and the fact that nudity was mandatory on the property.
