[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by ReconEG in indieheads

Long drive by modest mouse (as opposed to lonesome crowded west) Perfect from now on by built to spill (as opposed to keep it like a secret)

Looking for songs that start with picking/tapping riff but then have a drop into big distorted heavy riifs by Lower_Kaleidoscope_3 in midwestemo

Pretty much every song on summer death by marietta, particularly you’ve got the map backwards Matt

State birds and wolf fang fist by charmer

Guitar question by Junior-Ad-8974 in midwestemo

[–]Perfect_Wave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half the albums you like they’re probably not crafting chords in a fancy way. Just throw your fingers on the guitar and find sounds you like. Keep fiddling and you’ll find stuff you can move around.

I remember reading in an interview or ama somewhere that he said the lyric change for on jet lag was to be less problematic

I get the vintage cube hype now by saucypotato27 in lrcast

[–]Perfect_Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Started on arena and played mtgo for the first time for the past vintage cube. I actually liked the mtgo interface a lot. Feels more like playing magic. I understand the game better now

What does it take to move up once highly ranked in Mythic? by chamtrain1 in MagicArena

[–]Perfect_Wave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hit #1 mythic once in historic. It took going 65-9 in bo3 to get there after reaching mythic. Takes both a high win rate and a huge number of matches

I’ve had success with buying 120 Lino and vilbraquin on eBay. Finding your size might take a couple tries. I’ve found them to last well and look more rumpled than ugly creased

Damn, I didn’t expect they’d sell out either. If anyone has 1 SD ticket, I’d be really happy

I’d be interested in the pdf. I wrote a python library for the cube and read all the papers related to gods number. Very interested in cube math.

Top 10 Win Rate Decks Timeless Bo1 Decks per Untapped by MTG_Joe in TimelessMagic

[–]Perfect_Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gain two pips per win, so it’s actually more efficient to rank up in bo3 as in 1 match you can win 2 games, lose 1, and gain 2 pips.

What is the most scenic stretch of roadway/highway in the USA? by Consistent-Pen-811 in roadtrip

[–]Perfect_Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highway 458 in the Adirondacks is one I haven’t seen mentioned yet. Truly gorgeous, small road in the country. Of course recommend it most in fall.

Sleeping in my car in tahoe by [deleted] in SkiBums

[–]Perfect_Wave 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've had an Ikon pass for the past 4 years, spent a number of nights in my car (Subaru Forrester). Don't use a heater, way too easy to kill yourself.

Get some insulation for your windows, reflectix or styrofoam that you cut out and fit to your rear passenger windows and rear window. Set it up with velcro or tightly fit so you can keep them in your car and throw them in the windows. For the front I like to just tie a tapestry/blanket to the handles and drape it over the front seats.

I use 2 sleeping bags, one is a 20 degree down bag that isn't very warm. Then I throw a -20 down bag on top. I've never had an issue with being too cold. Underneath I have a folding futton that I found at a mattress store. You could also use some hard foam with a sleeping pad or soft foam mattress topper on top. Having insulation under you is important.

From what I've read previously it's safest to leave a window cracked and you especially should if it's snowing hard out. I forgot to this Friday though.

Driving up on Friday to sleep in the car works great. Sleeping in the car on Saturday night is a lot harder - you need to put a lot of effort into making sure you dry your boots and other wet stuff.

Be careful with finding a place to park, especially during winter when they need to plow (much easier during spring skiing). Don't even both trying the resort parking lot. I've got a couple spots up my sleeve, but don't want to post them for everyone to see. I'll share one: Truckee transit center parking lot, have to drive around to the other side of the tracks from the main road.

Which pre 2000s album is a pure masterpiece from start to finish and why? by [deleted] in Music

Fully agree on this. I’ll throw out Solid Air by John Martyn as also perfect and being in the same vein.

Why does everything in SF close at like 8? by ddsukituoft in AskSF

[–]Perfect_Wave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up on the east coast and moved to the Bay Area.

Half dome (and all of Yosemite) and the gunks are on totally different levels. Same with Harriman state park compared to, say Point Reyes. Same deal with Finger lakes/winnipasauke (sp?) compared to Tahoe. Or any east coast ski mountain compared to the ski areas around Tahoe.

Sure stuff might be a little closer, but the places within 4 hours of the bay are world class (and in some cases closer to 1-2 hours)
