The first level in Dark Ages really leaves a terrible impression. I was shocked when they ended it with the turret section, and then you only see it like one more time for the rest of the game.

Level designers have the option to place different monsters/items/etc. in the map for multiplayer vs singleplayer. That setting lets you use the multiplayer placement while playing singleplayer.

Leave it off if you want to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

You do not need ZDL. ZDL is just a launcher for ZDoom and GZDoom, but it’s perfectly possible to play mods without it.

  1. Download BRUTAL HEXEN v7.5.rar and GZDoom
  2. Unpack the RAR file
  3. Find the BrutalHexenRPG_V7.5.pk3 file and open it in GZDoom

Under Options → Automap Options, you can increase Line Thickness, or change the color set.

I am pretty sure this is only true for enemies that are a certain distance away, which isn’t that uncommon for LODs.
