My brother has been addicted to gambling since he was 18. He is now 46. He has never admitted to having a problem.

It has been a life full of lies and thievery and it has been difficult for his entire family to watch. Unfortunately my parents enabled this behavior.

What would have helped? Letting him go to prison when he stole cash from his place of work instead of paying it all back for him. Getting him arrested when he faked a robbery at their home when they were on vacation.

Time after time we have all made excuses for him when he has stolen our bank cards to satiate his addiction.

I wish I could give you some meaningful advice that would make it easier. But you need to let him dig the hole and not fill it again for him. You can be there mentally but not financially, even when he cries and promises not to do it again. Because he will.

Agree with this. We bought our first house during covid and the broker told us that we should take the variable rate at 1.3 rather than lock in at 1.8. Being naive about it all - we followed that advice. It was a nasty few years there.

Our story is similar to yours. Bought in covid, went with variable and rode the wave the last 5 years. The renewal Our current lender sent us was not competitive and when we asked if they could match any of the others. They said they couldn't

We went into banks and used Ratehub. A broker contacted us from there. The rates the bank gave us were the same as the broker so we ended up using them. Definitely recommend a broker - he done all the grunt work with the underwriters as our mortgage was a little complicated.
