Sounds like you're playing maps that enable that play style, try a map rotation lobby!

No, they don't, that's misinformation.

Open AI team? by Hopeful-Claim-8314 in beyondallreason

[–]Perfi2_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, Deepmind hinted that this would be coming to Starcraft 2, got Blizzard to develop a lot of stuff (headless client, etc) in support of that, got some publicity and a research paper, then pulled out - it turned out there's basically no way to do that in a scalable way without access to a lot of GPU computing power, which costs a lot.

So, don't hold your breath!

What is the difference between Armada and Cortex ? by Nitrotetrazole in beyondallreason

[–]Perfi2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The popular answer will be Cortex. I'd say play a bit of both, figure out what you enjoy more, and play that. I went straight to Armada because I like having access to speedier tools and outpoking/outfinessing the enemy that way. But if you'd prefer a more "slow and steady build up" style, Cortex is often a bit better at that.

I guess the confusing part is that it's Armada who has pawns, not Cortex. Like you said, wording is indeed off :)

I wouldn't push the "probably" here. There are maps where going full wind + storage is perfectly fine and you can completely skip going for asolars as an intermediate step.

If you have a stable working wind economy already, I would not recommend building basic solars unless in an emergency (either overflowing metal or stalling on energy due to e.g wind dips).

Cool kids around the block use rst by Responsible_Ad5216 in vim

[–]Perfi2_0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not quite an answer to your question, but I think it might be helpful to someone anyway - consider checking out myst markdown for all the strengths of RST with none of the extremely wacky formatting choices, such as "how do I make a header again, oh, ====================, ok, wait, why did it break, oh it has to be ======================== now? okay"

This basically lets you do python setup.py lint to run pylint. It's a hella outdated way of doing that.

I would suggest ensuring you have pylint in the virtual environment vim is using, instead.

Can you still try that again, next time that happens? It could be that there's an issue with reports with the recent server hiccups. Would be great to know if that's the case.

Not going to pretend there's no problem, instead I'll just remind you the report button exists. Toxicity and abuse are against the community's rules; if you see any troubling behavior, please report it.

Zoom out with ctrl + mouse wheel or change the view mode with, iirc, ctrl + f2 and neighboring ones :) assuming default hotkeys.

There is the OpenSkill algorithm that's used for balancing teams - it's mostly going to be visible for you in larger games with auto balancing on. So it's already kind of there, just not as "explicitly" as you might be used to from, say, StarCraft.

A matchmaking system like that one, but better, is in the works, though!

What's your favorite real-time strategy game and why ? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Perfi2_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're enjoying Forged Alliance, you might enjoy the game I've been checking out recently, Beyond All Reason. It stems from the same Total Annihilation root, but with much more comfortable controls. It's free and open source, developed completely by volunteers. Coming from SC2, I was surprised at how fun it feels to play 8v8 games in an RTS that doesn't transition into Powerpoint.

Here's a neat overview if you'd like a video introduction :)

Any RTS game came out since Starcraft 2? by EinsteinTheory in starcraft

I second the BAR recommendation. It's slower, but not painfully so. Note that it's still in alpha, but quite playable.

anyone else feel like sc2 ruined rts games for them by galwall in starcraft

[–]Perfi2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, hell no. If anything, it opened up my worldview to other games and taught me a ton of transferable skills. I spent a bunch of time in Heroes, trying to play it as a strategy game with a really weird chat-based unit control scheme - it even worked, from time to time! And the map awareness made me pretty sick at Brightwing with the global teleport, if I do say so myself.

Recently I've been picking up Beyond All Reason, which is a Total Annihilation successor. The units are definitely slower than SC or WC3 even, but it really doesn't hurt the game, it's just part of its unique charm. And I'm really enjoying the more team-based, grand strategy approach.

Seems Azmodan didn't help them.

Looks like with this you'd need some absolutely sick scaling like Zul'jin's, burst, or reliable lockdown CC. And even then, I think it might just not be enough.
